Who can copy VHS to Mp4 etc
« on: January 10, 2013, 05:43:14 PM »
I have a bunch of US 4wd videos plus some Camel Trophy ones that I need to convert to digital format as I don't have a video player anymore. If there is someone in Melbourne who can do it that would be great

There are companies around who do this for a living.  Perhaps let your fingers do the walking?  I used to have a VHS with DVD recorder in it, but being a SAMSUNG product ... it was faulty before it left the manufacturer ... and it took me nearly 9 months to get my money back from them.

Hey ozbogwam,

If it was only 1 or 2 tapes I'd do it for you, but "a bunch of US 4wd videos plus some Camel Trophy ones" would be a lot of my time. I have a Panasonic VHS-DVD recorder that you are welcome to borrow.....got the manual and stuff....

I'm in Werribee, and work in the CBD.

PM me.

Plenty of camel trophy series on YouTube http://tinyurl.com/a84jtdx

Putting your VHS tapes to disc will get you the same, if not worse, resolution as those online already.

You can download any media from YouTube to your own PC in a variety of formats by
pasting the URL in http://www.savevid.com/

Do a search on YouTube for your other Tapes, you will be amazed as to what is out there.

Hi,

If the 4WD videos are of US origin they will probably be NTSC not PAL (the system we use in Australia). This means you will need a NTSC compatible player that will output a PAL video signal (a lot do not do this) and then you need to convert that to a digital format via a digitiser plugged into a computer to turn into a MP4. Also the quality of the NTSC videos will be not as good as a good PAL one. And yes, there are digitisers and there are digitisers and you can tell the difference. The ones we used to use in broadcast situations used to cost about $35,000 and then we used a $3,000 VHS player to go with it.

So my advice is if these are irreplaceable videos you really want on your computer, then get it done professionally. Do a Google search on NTSC VHS (or just VHS) to MP4 conversion and there will be someone in Melbourne to help.
Tony.
