Inskip Point Warning......
« on: January 10, 2013, 05:11:19 AM »
Geez, two serious threads in one week......

As published in the Gympie Times.

CAMPSITES at Inskip were raided by thieves on Monday night, abruptly ending the holidays for one family.

The Jeremy family of Caloundra woke early Tuesday to find their humble campsite had been raided of camping gear, including an Evercool Fridgemate fridge/freezer full of food.

Police are investigating this and another two similar complaints made by Inskip campers.

Anne Jeremy said her family had been camping at Inskip on and off for years as it was an affordable holiday for her large family.

The "battlers" set up camp up at The Oaks on Inskip Peninsula.

"We were in a modest tent, not an expensive caravan, so to be targeted is a very low act," Mrs Jeremy said.

"We also have old cars. The people that took our stuff should have seen we don't have much."

She said they saved hard over years for what little camping gear they had. Besides the loss of property, the family's members feel violated by the theft.

Thieves roamed their campsite and stole numerous items: the fridge/freezer worth about $1200; two fishing rods; two camping chairs; a pile of good-quality beach towels; and the children's swimwear, most of which were gifts for Christmas.

"It's such a beautiful location, but our happiness soon soured," Mrs Jeremy said.

"The theft has completely devastated us, forcing us to quit our holiday earlier than expected. We feel so violated... Being able to occasionally get away from it all was our only real life pleasure."

The Jeremys were happy to tell their story to warn other campers how easy it was to become victims of theft.

Rainbow Beach Police Senior Constable Al Gerrard advised campers to always secure their belongings at night and when not at the campsite.

He said generators and other large items such as eskies were a big target and owners needed to chain them up or move them into an enclosure.

"Fold fishing rods and chairs up and take them inside," he added.

"Campers should not stop being vigilant about personal security."

A shame. That is a great spot for families to camp. You would hope your gear was safe but I guess times are changing.

The low life are everywhere and they breed!  They seem to breed better than most people.  They don’t care who they target, they are different to you and me.  They also don’t seem to suffer from stress?  They don’t seem to worry that being up late at night stealing that they may be late for work the next day!  :P  And I hate it when you hear them talk and they talk about pay day.  The dole is not pay, you have to work to get a pay packet.  Haaaaaaaaaaa Low Life, just hate them.... >:(

Unfortunately this is a common occurence at Inskip. It's too easily accessible for the low lifes. I wouldn't camp there ever.
Cheers, John.

It is such a shame, bloody scum. We love it up there and have never had a problem. Only takes one low act to sour it. Hope they get theirs.

Mongrels....I do hope they get caught.... not just those in this particular location but any of their 'relatives' who seem to frequent camping areas.
Just a shame when hard working people get done over by these low lives.

Omg that's awful! We have camped there heaps and love it, never had a problem with stuff being stolen. We have often wondered if our stuff would be there when we return from 4wd but it always is. Will be very wary from now on. But I suppose it's a risk you take when camping, it can happen anywhere.

NYE while camping with mates @ Newnes it was about 2am and my mate who is a smoker was sitting up nice and quiet like and caught someone wandering through our camp in the dark - when he spoke up the guy soiled himself and took off into the dark

i guess smoking is good for your goods if not your health

Hi,
I suspect its locals who see the campers as outsiders, an easy mark, and not likely to be around to follow up on any recovery very easily.
I'm very wary in camping areas near local habitation.
cheers

I must say, they must be heavy sleepers not hear anything. I think a few possum traps around the camp might help. So long as you remember where they are for that midnight pee.

Just one of the reasons that camping with a Rottweiler and Cattle dog have their merits.

Not to mention my trusty baseball bat. Nice and quiet, apart from the satisfying crack when it splits their thick skulls.

While we were camped at Inskip a few years ago our solar shower was stolen from our camp in broad day light.. Didn't i get an ear full from the misses cause she couldn't have a hot shower.. And it was full of water, baking the sun..
But other than that I've had no dramas up there.

Similar thing happend to to campers at Mimosa Rocks last week, one had two eskys full of food taken which ended their holiday and one had the spirits removed from their esky. We lost nothing, we had an Engel out in the open under the annex, security cables worth their weight in gold

Remember that during the recent Hurricane Sandy when whole neighbourhoods lost power for 7 days, locals setup their own (armed) watch groups to scout for looters... more like militia... but anyhow, some of those guys who had to use force against looters said their early alert system allowed them to detect where the intruders were coming from in the dark. What was the early alert system? Strategically placed empty beer cans. Apparently they work well when the looter steps/kicks/trips on them in the dark.

cheers

We were up at Dicky Beach CP last week and some mountain bikes and a iphone got stolen from someones camp one night. Same as you GG we had an engel fridge under teh tarp and panels out in the open all secured with some of your trusty cables  :cup: not fool proof but at least makes them think twice and gives me a bit of piece of mind when everyone leaves the camp for the day.

Hi guys ...this maybe not as nuts as it first sounds...give it a read.......some years ago working as a Boilermaker where every night one or two workshops got robbed..we decided to audio tape ourselves working and shouting at each other during the day......then at night with some  lights on which i might add were always on for  CCTV which was a waste of time when man has mask or hoodie on.........we played the daytime audio fairly loud....NO BURGLERS whatsoever at our place.....might work in Camper or Caravan me is thinking....
