Major Fire Updates

Emergency Alert Telephone warning message for Illawarra, Shoalhaven and Southern Ranges. 07/01/13 2
Posted: 07/01/2013

Tonight an emergency alert telephone warning message has been sent to the areas of the Illawarra, Shoalhaven and the Southern Ranges.

If you have received this message you are in an area that is forecast to have Catastrophic Fire Danger on Tuesday 8 January 2013.

For your survival, leaving early is the safest option. Leaving a bush fire prone area tonight or early tomorrow morning is recommended.

Make a decision about when you will leave, where you will go and how you will get there. Homes are not designed to withstand fires in catastrophic conditions.

Go Here to make sense of the map.

According to the news there are 99 fires currently firing in NSW with 20 now out of control.

Lets hope this seeks in.  Family is more important than anything material.  But watch, just like here in Tas, the bewildered residents will stand in front of cameras saying "it just came so fast, it was like a freight train........'

Be safe swaggers.

Yes, I got that last night.

I also have an app on my iphone called "Fires Near Me" provided by the RFS, to keep an eye on what is happening. Listening to the wind outside my office, if there is a spark, it will be terrible. Not sure how hot it is yet, inside with air on, and blinds closed...

All NSW National Parks are closed today.

Stay Safe travellers..

Surely they are not expecting all the residents to vacate the region now?
Here for a good time, not a long time!

In total I got 6 consecutive messages within half hour last night for the Illawarra Region and. 1 landline phone message just before midnight. Obviously the system works but needs to be  adjusted to only send. 1 or 2 messages not 6 to all mobile phones. At least they doing something I Spose. Stay safe all

They advise the following;

Implement your bushfire plan now.
Monitor fire and weather at rfs and bom.
Leaving is the safest option.
The main thing is that you leave once a fire starts nearby and understand and accept that you can't protect your property when it's catostrophic.

Be safe.

We have relos staying with us down here (tassie) and they got an sms last night too.......they live in suburbia Albion Park Rail!

Yet we have other relo's who live down the coast in the bush closer to the danger and we are having to tell her to take the warning serious and get her gear and leave. She isnt taking it serious because they also sent the same message to all her friends up the coast who are not in danger.

I dont live in the area, and I got the message. Maybe they snagged my phone number while working down there recently.
I stayed at a hotel in Wollongong a few nights, I don't really care where it came from, I'd prefer to get it than not....

Just got a text from our friends at Bendalong, they've been evacced to Ulladulla but had to leave their CT at the park.
You can't spell 'funeral' without 'fun', nor 'manslaughter' without 'laughter'
