What do you put on the ground under your annex?
« on: January 06, 2013, 03:34:29 PM »
Hi All,

The wife and I were just looking at buying something to put on the ground under the annex, I was just wondering what everyone uses?

We heard of CGear

www.caravansplus.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=10711

It looks great, dirt and sand falls through the holes in it, you can peg it down, it's non slip and durable, but the catch is it costs about $220.

We have also seen the Enduromat, it seems to have all the bells and whistles of the CGear mat, with a similar price tag.

Then there is the OzTrail Ultra Mesh :

www.campingcentral.com.au/oztrail-ultramesh-shade-cloth-matting-tarp-10-x-10ft/

It can be pegged down, but dirt does not fall through it and its slippery when wet, but it only costs around $50

Does anyone know of any other product which do the job of the CGear or Enduromat without the $$$ price tag?

Cheers :)

We just bought a hunk of green shadeclothe, we cut a piece off to use under the shower/crapper tent and the rest under the annex area.

We just drive the pegs through and sweep it out once a day.

If it frays, i'll trim it around the edge and when it buggered, dump it, but it seems to cop a hiding ok.

I think.... i paid about $70.00 or sumfin like dat.

The money i save i can put towards camping fees.  :D

Our camper does have an awning floor if you have the walls on but we havent used it yet.  First set up was a sandy camp site at a CP park in Adelaide the camp show was on so we went and got an oztrail matting for about $20 wish we had got the next size but it did the job we just gave it a quick sweep if needed took 2 seconds and if needed can be put on poles for extra shade if not needed on ground.  Usually we use nothing but have a cheap door mat from I thin reject shop at the door and try to have shoes off in bed area floor.  Another option is clip together foam mats but need room to store them we have a set of these that we set up under the camper floor prevents it getting as much moisture on it if wet or dewy.

Shadecloth- I have been using the same piece of shadecloth for four years. Great value for money.

I too use the shade clothe, went to Kmart and bought an eyelet kit from their camping section, put a few eyelets for the pegs to go through, works a treat

Shadecloth for us. One piece for under the tent, another for the annexe floor. Cheap, nice under foot and easy to clean off. It's light and easy to carry too.

I like the eyelets idea Variflex, might give that a crack.

9 times out of 10 it's the grass we set up on. we have some rubber type shade cloth like stuff i bought well over a year ago to use (no idea what it's called), but have only put it down once to see what it was like. even at the beach we have jagged some nice grassey areas to set up on, so i run with that when i can.

In this case the cheap option just does not cut it. The c gear matting works, simple as that. Has anyone tried shade cloth doubled over similar to c gear? There is nothing magical about it surely...

We used shade cloth for many years.....when we tented, and then used the same piece with our previous camper.
It worked fine. Did the exact same job as the C-Gear mat that we have now, just not as flash looking.
We used it as a single layer though, 'cos when doubled over it got slippery. The top layer could slide under foot, if not fully pegged down.

Thanks for the advice everyone, I think we may just have to splash out on the CGear. We've already spent 12K on the camper so what's another $220?!
