Not very camping related but pretty Aussie related.  Just wanted to say will miss Mike Hussey in the Australian team he has given everything he could to Aussie cricket and coming into the side older than others has shown that if you stick at something anything can happen.  Have really enjoyed watching him play and he will leave a big hole in the side.  So all the best to him with his time with his family now.  :cheers:

Yes. He was one of the good ones and will surely be missed on the pitch for some time. Whoever replaces him, will have big shoes to fill

No neither can I, not a into the future prospect but I would be happy to see Dave Hussey get some games as well they are good players to watch.

Huss's last victory song


The team song is "Under the Southern Cross I Stand," which is sung by the players after every victory and "treated with reverential consideration and respect" within the team.The official lyrics are as follows, though when it is sung by the players, the word "little" in the last line is replaced by "bloody" or an expletive.

Australia you little beauty.
The authorship of this "Under the Southern Cross I Stand" is credited to former wicketkeeper Rod Marsh, who was apparently inspired by Henry Lawson's 1887 poem, "Flag of the Southern Cross". Marsh initially had the role of leading the team in singing it, and on his retirement he passed it on to Allan Border. The other players to have taken on the role are David Boon (when Border took over the captaincy), Ian Healy (on Boon's retirement), Ricky Ponting (on Healy's retirement), Justin Langer (when Ponting took over the captaincy). The role currently belongs to Michael Hussey, who took it on when Langer retired in January 2007.

Thanks for that share bushbandit I did not know the words.  Not sure if you saw the cricket today Huss has handed the song to Lyon looks like a big honour with the names listed above.

Yep, loved watching "Mr Cricket" play. Great batsman, always gave 100% and seemed like a genuine, down to earth bloke.

Pity he couldn't have hit the winning runs today, bit of redemption for his captain running him out yesterday ;D

Funny you say that about the winning runs you could see Mitch wanted him to get them and didnt run when he hit that but Huss did I had on my FB A sign of his true character that he would not care if he got the runs but that the team won.

Was thinking the same as I was watching. Humility was always one of his great traits. I see he is not in the OD squad, but his brother is! Is that the end for Huss in all forms of the game?

What a farce that the selectors are dumping him from the 50 over team. If his brother is still selected it will make a mockery of the "planning for the future" policy that sectors seem to be obsessed with. Pick the best team for now (ie in form, not reputation) that is capable of winning now, and pick the best side for the world cup when it comes around. But getting off topic, also agree congrats & thanks but should still be able to play out the summer as he will be twice as good as whoever they replace him with.

Yep it looks like it is would prefer to see Huss than Hughes and Khawaja in the OD squad, not even worth starting that conversation in our house lots of opinions from BF about selections.  We are not Watson or Haddin fans so he is not happy to see Wade and Warner rested too.

Sorry but Dean Jones was before my watching of cricket so I cannot comment on this never watched it when I was younger.  Huss wasnt always exciting in his style of play but a great cricketer still.

Yeah, its a bit of a strange squad. Haddin's had his chance and Watson's an all right all-rounder but too injury prone, but to leave
out Wade and Warner is interesting. Warner is just bloody exciting to watch, and he's matured is style of play and will become a great test player IMO.

Deano was awesome, and he was a Victorian. :cup: Good to see 4 vics in the side. I reckon Finch reminds me of Dean Jones with his batting style. Big hitting, pure entertainment!

I think time has rose coloured the memory of Jones. Try watching some of the old hi lights shows on Foxtel some time.  Was good, but Hussey has a better average & strike rate and also played in the 5 or 6 batting spot with much less opportunity to score hundreds.and get his eye in. The last year has been super entertaining by Huss, both in intent and results. Not saying Deano was a dud, just that he is remembered fondly because he was head & shoulders above everyone else in the 50 over team at the time, and once he was out the innings was virtually kaput.

Very good to see Vic's in the side and BF will tell me how good Dean Jones is. And agree Haddin has had his chance but Watson all rounder or batsman only has no fans in our house but we cant like them all  ;)

Cricket won't be the same without Mr Cricket.  :cup: Lets see who will step up into his place.

As for Deano, clearly the best of his time, just like Michael Beven was the best of his and both Hussey brothers were the best of their time. Its hard to compair then though as conditions change over the times, boundrys are smaller, bats are better.

The moral of the story, there are great cricketers and they all eventually retire. We add Mike Hussey to the list today. :'(

Sorry for stealing the thread but did anyone see Warnie and Samuels go at it tonight?

I think Warne is a promoters dream, even if he steps over the line sometimes. Good to see a bit of passion in sport, it is becoming too sanitised these days. Nothing like a bit of stink as Roy and HG used to say.
