where do you keep your fridge???
« on: January 04, 2013, 08:30:09 PM »
Hey all, after a nine day camping trip down the coast, I kept my fridge with my CT and used solar to run it. All my mates and family ribbed me reckond the only way was to leave it in the car the whole time. Where do you keep yours???? (Bush camping with no shore power).

Depends on what you are doing. Did you go out in the car every day? Was there anything else running off the battery? Do you have kids who need cold drinks etc? But most importantly, what business is it of others where you kept it? Your CT battery did not go flat so who cares. Busy bodies with nothing better to do than criticise how you camp. Ignore them.

In the car- it's a ute!  We had it set up before we got our CT, which doesn't have room for a fridge.  Problem solved!  But if one person goes off in the car, the other is left with no fridge!  Nothings perfect!  Kris

The world according to Mandrake, Nice!!

I have mine in the back of the ute, then transfer it to inside the CT. when we go places for the day, I put it back in the ute and plug it into the portable battery box. We will be setting up camp then going to do things for the day.

My fridges always stay in the back of the 4WD as it's hard working carrying a full fridge. Also if we go for a drive the battrey's get a charge, we always have cold drinks with us and less chance of being stolen.

If you only have the one fridge then it really depends on personal circumstances.  We've done both; in the car has benefits of having food at hand for lunch and the battery gets a charge when you head off for day trips; in the CT for us is a lot easier access than in the car.

Prior to getting solar panels I've transferred from car to CT part way through the trip as we didn't do many side trips to top up the car battery.

Bottom line if its got enough power and your beers are cold, who cares.

Preference for me is in the CT but that works better with my setup.

We leave the camping fridge at the campsite (on gas)

If we want to take drinks with us, just chuck some in a cooler bag.

We leave our household fridge at home too and use the cooler bag again if going out someplace.  :D

Same as others for us, it just depends on the trip and the length of time we are staying. I have a 75lt Auto Fridge in the car and leave it there if we are doing lots of travelling. If we are in a CP or staying in one spot for awhile I take it out of the car and plug it into the CT as I have more battery power to draw from.

For long extended trips that are more isolated I have a 50lt evakool fridge that goes into the CT as well.

Solar will be my next big spend, currently I either drive the car every couple do days or use the Honda Genny every couple of days for a couple of hours.

Regards

Jas

We only have the 1 fridge (40l Engel, also have a Two Zone). Normally it stays in the wagon, powered by the Aux battery. When we camp at Xmas, the fridge is pulled from the car & sits in the camper annexe, powered by the CT battery + solar panel, a 55l ice box is also used for the . The Xmas set up is on private property, so no worries about getting back to camp to find the fridge is gone.

Fridge in back of tug then on a stand in the annex next to the kitchen.  Everything nice and handy.  No back and forth to the fridge.  If we go anywhere for the day, we use a small esky.

We have 2 x 40l Engels in the front gullwing box of the camper and a 25l Weaco for day trip that's kept in the cruiser. One of the Engels is for food on the kitchen side of the camper, the other is for drinks on the other side of the front box. Sometimes the 25l is used as a freezer on bigger trips but mostly it's a back up drinks fridge.

I'm 50/50 sometimes it stays in the back of the cruiser, sometimes I set it up at the CT Kitchen.....another good option, if i'm unhooking the cruiser from the CT, i'll leave it in the back of the cruiser and reverse the cruiser back to the annexe, at the opposite end of the kitchen....
