Camper Insurance ... again

It certainly pays to check when your renewal comes in.

My KK Ltd was insured with CIL, renewal for the coming year is $506 for $23,500.  Did a ring around and ended up with AAMI at $393 for $25,000, I have my vehicles and Tug insured with AAMI so get a bit of a discount because of that.

Funny thing is for the past couple of years CIL was the best price, not any more.

did you try ringing CIL as a new customer?
standard issue with any insurance company.. give you the goods for couple of yrs, then part your doors after that

Is all the fine print the same?
For example:
*  CIL have a minimum cover of $1000, although I think most of us probably need to be covered for more than that anyway. (Learned that the hard way.   :-[   equipment prices soon ad up.)
*  Will AAMI recover your CT 'off-road', which is where most of us go?  CIL do, for a specified excess.

I think they would cover for off road as their Caravan Policy states, ‘AAMI caravan insurance provides comprehensive cover for your caravan anywhere in Australia’ and under their car insurance they state, ‘ AAMI’s policy will cover your car while it is being driven off-road.’  But a simple email to them to get it in writing could be best. I did that when I wanted AAMI to confirm of they cover for contaminated fuel.  They replied the next day with a positive answer.   Kevin

I have just taken possession of my first camper.

I did the research and I too found AAMI the best.

Yes they do cover off road, but contents only up to 500. They told me change my home contents policy to cover things like engel fridge etc so they are cover away from while travelling.

I phoned them all and all had hurdles didnt want to insure valueables inside as it was canvas ,no offroad ,and a host of other things ,then someone on here said phone GIO they are $100 cheaper and ask for the $4000 valueables cover .I did and it was exactly what he said it was $100 cheaper agreed value and $4000 worth of cover for say Engel Fridge ,Honda generator,Solar Panels etc and that was a measly $10 more. Also if my items are inside the tent area they couldnt care less they are covered. As well as in the toolbox if they are in there.Do your own checks as insurance is different for everybody different circumstances and dont forget to mention if your trailer is not OFFROAD on the compliance plate.

Hi all I phoned CIL for a quote today for my camper trailer but it didn't fit their requirements as it has a rooftop tent, they don't class it as a camper trailer even though it his all decked out as such, their definition is a foldout tent not a rooftop as a requirement for a camper trailer.           sorry no business

Is that definition in their PDS? My recollection was that CIL and others policies all talk about 'Caravans'. As a result of which they also insist on listing the annexe separately.  That might make sense where the annexe is the only piece of canvas, as with a van, but a rather pointless distinction in the case of a folding CT.
