Anyone found a really good bug spray.... that works?
« on: December 13, 2012, 05:36:54 PM »
Being a lawnie, i spend a lot of time outside (not many people have their grass inside), so flys and stuff are a bloody pain, aeroguard, off and the likes, don't seem to cut it.

Any ideas?

Bushnans for me too.agree with rid cream but can't stand it on me when I go to bed camping. Used to be one in FNQ called Wackoff.....  Used it more for the comedy factor........ I'm just going outside to wackoff...
I dont mind going to work, its the 8 hours  i have to wait to go home again that annoys me.

There is a company in town here who produce an organic ,natural,no toxins one called YA MATE.Made from Citronella ,Eucalypyus oil and Lavender. We used on the way to Darwin and back worked really well but not on flys which we didnt know at the time and went back and complained to the guy .It was then we found out it was for everything but flys .He is in the process of developing the fly repellent as per his website which also is being revamped for 2013.I beleive he is supplying it to the Armed Forces ,Wetland Centres and many other organizations.Beauty of it is its organic and all natural whih is a huge bonus.Whatever you buy as the last member said watch out it doesnt burn you which the Bushmans did to us on sensative areas.I have no affiliation with YA MATE just letting you know of an alternative.

After my first time out field, Bushmans ended up being a standard item in my kit. Works really well for me on pretty much every thing.
Unfortunately we found out after a couple of trips it even works on the cute medic chicks.  ???................ (at least thats the excuse we used  ;D )

Bushbandit,

How much is the yamate? No prices on the website.......

Prefer organic. The bushmans might work, and it probably works well, but the DEET isn't exactly good for you.

I've had DEET spray melt its way through a backpack after it leaked.
your skins the biggest organ, absorbing that all into the body.  (Its still better than getting eaten alive or worse, malaria or rossriver virus etc)

Why do people ask "What the hell were you thinking?"
Obviously I was thinking I was going to get away with it and not have to explain it....

x 2 for organic...............

Have in the last couple of weeks been trying a transdermal Vit B1, applied x 2 daily made up by our local pharmacy..........as I get bitten by any thing and react badly !! will be camping this weekend for the first time since starting to use it ...............hope they smell the Vit B oozing out of my pores and don't bite me.

Very interested in looking at the Ya mate too..........thanks for the link, bushbandit !!! :-*

Keeping the bugs away -- in Darwin it's the midge or sand fly that's the bugger --

O.k. the best way to stay bite free, that's to use the Miss's as a decoy  >:D -- bugs just love her and I stay rather bite free while she is around.  8)

The most effective thing or replellent that we have found is the old fashion Mosquito Coil

Having a pretty severe allergy to sandflies have found a small amount of "Avon skin so soft bath oil" on exposed skin stops em real good.

I have been using "Natures Botanical"  bought it from Horse land.  It is all natural and worked when aeroguard seemed to be an attractant.

You could burn one overnight in an enclosed space with said mowing attire ... completely saturate it in the MozzieCoil aroma ... I reckon it'd keep more than just bugs away!

AVON Skin So Soft moisturizing dry oil as used by the British military.
It's got nought to do with midgies but it WORKS.

Also, have you tried the Tin Can Apex club ( I think it was Apex) remedies?

Something about citronella oil, dettol and metho.
The wife mixes it up when we are at Tin Can.
Seems to work.

By the time I get to the 3rd lawn for the day I probably smell too much for the flies to come close.
Maybe you need to work up a good beer sweat. ;D
