Reversing cameras
« on: December 11, 2012, 05:34:13 AM »
We need a reversing camera and monitor. I would prefer a wired unit that can have multiple inputs, and preferably show them at once. I found one at elinz.com.au.

But, for the camper it would be much easier to go wireless. Has anybody found a unit that can have multiple wired inputs as well as a wireless, or even a wireless camera without a monitor...

I wouldn't go wireless for the trailer, convenient yes, however I have heard many stories of not being able to get enough signal due to the big piece of steel between the transmitter and receiver.

I got a wireless from dx.com, but I havent gotten around to fitting it yet... will hopefully get time next week. I've heard of people installing signall boasters in the back of the car to get them to work, and others who havent had a problem

I bought a wireless camera and monitor from Hong Kong through ebay for $69 and free delivery it works great.  The camera is a direct swap for one of the lights over the number plate on the cruiser and I noticed they had custom cameras for most vehicles.  This works very well and I noticed they had multiple camera units.  The newer wireless ones are much better than the ones that were around a few years ago.

We have the ARB one with the replacement rear-view mirror.  Pretty sure you can add another camera.  Picture quality is good as is the sound from the microphone.  The mirror itself is not great.

Yep, you're right, fnq4now, the ARB monitor can take multiple inputs. We also have a Trailer Connection Kit which may be of interest. A 2nd camera is mounted on the rear of the trailer and when plugged into the vehicle, the monitor will automatically select the trailer camera.

Cheers, Sam.
