You do get what you pay for.
I own an ARB alloy roof rack ($1200) and another brand but most likely built by same guy who builds the Tigerz11 alloy racks ($400-500).
Reason: No one in Australia was offering (at the time) an alloy touring rack so I built one using the cheaper brand rack as a base to start with (amazingly the people who've either seen it or talked to me about it now offer them now.....I think mine looks better...and I wasn't risking a perfectly good $1200 rack
Differences between the ARB and the cheap brand:
The cheaper is lighter....a lot lighter (even more now it's in touring form) 2x people to lift off ARB rack & only 1x for the modified cheap to lift on.
Cheaper rack has 8 legs to spread to load over - ARB only 6 legs
Both have a diamond shaped mesh floor similar looking to a alloy front house screen door.
However the cheaper is very thing (around 5mm dia mesh) bends when you walk on it - ARB is as thick as the front screen door (around 10mm dia. mesh) doesnt bend when I walk over it.
I mounted my roof top tent to the main rungs, not the mesh (I wouldn't trust mesh like that but in saying that Id do the same way to the ARB rack for extra safety).
To sum up:
I say the ARB Alloy Roof Rack is well built a far more superior rack and will take a lot more abuse. However its heavier then the cheaper model,
The cheaper brand has the extra support to spread the load better (6 support feet under the rooftop tent & 2 more in front), its super light, I believe it will still do what job it is built for however I would & currently do have it on the vehicle as pictured.
