Century Deep Cycle AGM Batteries at BCF
« on: December 04, 2012, 07:29:36 PM »
Hi All

Just noticed BCF have Century 100Amp Deep Cycle AGM batteries for $329.  I need a pair for my Modcon and thought this might be the best option?   http://www.centurybatteries.com.au/search/index.php/batteries/ID-224

I can find cheaper on Ebay but figured Century would make a solid reliable battery.

What do you think, go for it?

Yep, I think that there about $50 to expensive for 100AH AGM, around the $280 mark for Deka Seamate/ Intimidator is what I have purchased over here in the west.
Go with Jetcrew

Also the price on the BCF site for the Century 100AH battery is $399. http://www.bcf.com.au/online-store/products/Century-Car-Battery-C12-100DA-AGM.aspx?pid=293205#Description
Where did you see $329?

I'm interested in the Century as I suspect it will tolerate under-bonnet conditions better than other AGMs.  I've had a Fullriver die on me and hoping to find something a bit more robust, but still deep-cycle and preferably AGM.

Look at the Allrounder for underbonnet, it is a crossover 105 Ah but still cranking rated.  I think Jetcrew can sort you for these as well or if in WA give me a call.

I replaced my dead Fullriver with an MRV87 Allrounder.  It seemed to fade slowly after a year - and it was not discharged heavily very often at all.  I think perhaps it was affected in the early stages by low voltage from my alternator (100 series).  Early this year I put a voltage-booster on the alternator so I'm getting about 14.5V now but the Allrounder has not improved.  So it has only lasted 2.5 years.
I'm still considering replacing it with another Allrounder but also considering other options.  Exide Extreme perhaps.

Personally I think 2.5 years out of an Allrounder as an under bonnet battery is OK given they are not an overly expensive battery compared to most. I think most of my vehicle batteries (4x4 and daily commuter) both cranking and second where fitted are lucky to last any longer than that.

I guess - but it was half-dead after 18months.

Anyway, back to the OP's post  .... I can see the Century 100AH AGM is in the new BCF catalog (just got it emailed) at $329, $70 off.

Sorry for the hijack here :-) ... but found this AGM on autoelecau's ebay store
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DEEP-CYCLE-BATTERY-AGM-12-VOLT-12V-120-A-H-AMP-HOUR-CARAVAN-CAMPER-DUAL-NEW-/300823823527?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item460a7f44a7#ht_1662wt_1397

Of particular interest it says
"Suitable for any location including under bonnet use"

Some other AGMs seem to suggest under bonnet is ok.  This is the first time I've seen it explicitly stated.
So one would presume the 2 year warranty will cover under-bonnet use.

I asked the question of autoelecau  - will the warranty be honoured if used under the bonnet?   and received this response
"Yes , as long as if it should fail it is NOT because of heat."

Which is a bit lame.  So it isn't really suitable under the bonnet at all.  Saying "Suitable for any location including under bonnet use" is deceptive if the warranty doesn't cover normal (ie. hot) conditions under the bonnet.

The price is in the latest BCF catalogue I received in the letter box.  I thought it sounded like a good price.

Also figured being a Century the quality should be there.

Having said that I've just checked the size and it won't fit in my current battery bay.   :-(

Might be considering a 75amp ritar.
