Help Me Plan A trip
« on: November 27, 2012, 03:45:01 PM »
Due to some cancellations and other bits of going ons, I am now in a position to have 3 weeks off around the june school holidays next year.

A couple of ideas are springing to mind at the moment.

Alice Springs, West McDonald ranges and the rock. Only problem with this one is that the boss does not like the cold and she is a bit worried about the overnight temperatures

The Cape, I am guessing that this will probably be the busiest time to go. But being a Cape virgin and wanting to do the OTL, is it something even worth considering doing on your own or with another couple who are also cape virgins?

Not very often i find myself in the position of having leave and not knowing what to do with it? What are your thoughts.....or any other suggestions?
Cheers, Craig

The red centre during the holidays is quite cold, expect subzero two or three nights per week. Also quite busy that time of the year.

How about Alice, Kununurra, Bungles, then home. With us to Bungles then we keep going to Broome.

Overnight winter temps are pretty cool in the Centre, but the days are lovely, and the scenery is magnificent.

We went to Cape York this June/July and even though it was peak time, we never felt crowded. You'll be fine on the Old Tele Track, plus you'll meet plenty of people along the way in different campgrounds that are travelling alone or in small groups that would be happy for you to tag along with them. We were a group of six cars but still picked up a couple who were travelling the track alone and wanted the safety of some company. It was fun meeting new people. It's also really warm, so the boss will love that :cup:

Have you been to Kakadu and Litchfield NP? Arnhem Land? McGirr's Gulf trip sounds good too ;D

We did the OTL as a single car during the June / July holidays. Teamed up with different groups at different times even the myswag group for the palm creek crossing. You certainly wouldn't regret doing the Cape.

Thanks all, the cold overnight temps are what really had the boss concerned..........and as they say, happy wife, happy life.

Had not thought about McGirrs trip, will do a bit of reading back through posts and have a think

Thanks agian for the suggestions. Also knowing that with patience the cape would be doable for virgins is good to know.

Cheers, :)

The boss installed the diesel air heater in the new KK just so we wouldn't have this issue.

If cold is an issue then the Cape sounds like a much better option.
