guess im lookn for some info and ideas from those who have them or do i get a 3.0ltr patrol im not convinced but i see lots of people on the forum with um
There would be a heap of reasons why people get them. They are really the only affordable useable liveable solid front axle machine out there. If your buying new they are a lot of vehicle for a lot less than the competition and buying new who would even think that there will be a problem with the engine at some stage. Plus, humans have a way of blind eying risk which is why we are the most successful animal out there.
If I needed a rigid front axle 4wd I would get a late model patrol, new exhaust with egt and associated gauges and catch can and take my chance. The reality being that on the balance of probability you will be fine and the added gauges will help.
I reckon the most important thing is to work out what your current and near future needs are. This lead us into a Prado (could have been a Pajero no worries) as we needed low range, towing and 8seats. Plus it was a mums taxi so needed to be more refined.
So if you dont need a rigid front axle then your options are broader (and of course more refined).
If you need that RFS the late model patrol would be fine. But mercy that chassis/body is getting old and you can really feel it compared to the newer stuff.
Have fun.
