Australian drivers are getting dumber and worse.
You need to come to Cairns for a while. As much as I'd like to blame the tourists (and there's certainly some of them that need re-educating with a sack of half-bricks), the locals are just as bad.
Contrast this to when I was driving in LA a few years back. Everyone was courteous, left room, let you change lanes if/when you needed to, etc. I was dreading it, we've all heard stories about the lawlessness of the LA freeways, but it was wonderfully refreshing. Even when I did do something silly, right in front of a cop as it turns out, he just smiled at the useless tourist and waved me through - here it would have resulted in a half-hour verbal barrage. Whenever I get cranky on the roads here, I try and remember that if people in LA can behave in a civil fashion, then I'm sure I can too.
That people who hide behind the anonymity of their keyboard, aren't as tough & hardcore in person
Some people. Doesn't apply to me - I'm actually tougher. But even I pale before the sheer hardcoreness of D4D.
This week I've learnt that Friday is the best day of the week - it's just such a shame that there's 4 work days in front of it.
Cheers,
Matto
