Help to look at a trailer in Darwin?
« on: November 10, 2012, 08:40:04 PM »
I saw a jayco online for sale in Darwin. As I am in Brisbane, I was wondering if anyone on Myswag could;
Confirm Jayco is legitimate.
Have quick look to confirm consistent with photos. :cup:
Maybe even know the current owner ?

If I buy it, I have to freight it to Brisbane - anyone have suggestions?

Its a scam.

I was looking at it as well.

Did you get this email:

Hello,

Sorry for the delayed response, for introduction my name is Sarah Newman and i am selling this camper trailer because my brigade will deploy for 9 months to TAS.Please find some photo attached. I am under enormous time pressure cause I need to sell it fast, that being the reason for selling it so low. It is in perfect condition inside and out, never involved in accidents. From the beginning I must say that the camper trailer has all the paper works and i got the full service history. I confirm that it have 6 months rego. I've never smoked in it, and I want to sell it to a serious person. It is still available for sale if interested, finale price that i am asking is $12,000. The camper trailer is in Darwin in a military base, and in case it gets sold I will get it delivered to the purchaser for only $0.25/km(about$500-$600) Distance as calculated by car GPS. Let me know if you are interested, email back.
I only take in consideration the buyer that is really interested to buy my swan,to be sure that i don't spend my time with endless discussion,or pure curiosity.
I'll appreciate your attention in this matter!

Thanks for your interest,

SGM Sarah Newman

Even the air force are involved in scams.....

Why do people ask "What the hell were you thinking?"
Obviously I was thinking I was going to get away with it and not have to explain it....

This one from a few months back i emailed over a trailer...

This is her reply to me wanting to see it.

Hello,

I am selling this camper trailer because my brigade will deploy for 6 months to TAS. I am under enormous time pressure cause I need to sell it fast, that being the reason for selling it so low. It is in perfect condition inside and out, never involved in accidents. From the beginning I must say that the vehicle has all the paperworks and i got the full service history. I confirm that it have 11 months rego. I've never smoked in it, and I want to sell it to a serious person. It is still available for sale if interested, price as stated in the ad $11,200. The camper trailer is in Darwin in a military base, and in case it gets sold I will get it delivered. Let me know if you are interested, email back.

Then, i got this email from her......

Hello,

I've told you, at this moment I am in Darwin NT in a military base, getting ready for TAS (I hope for the last time). I am doing a special training program each day and I am not allowed to get out of the unit or give calls whenever I want. The delivery will take 2 to 5 days depending on your location and it’s not a problem because I can do it at no cost for you. Because it is a large transaction, we will complete the deal only using an authorized third part like Google Checkout coz I already prearranged the whole process with them, using their Google Checkout (bank-to-bank wire transfer).

The money will be sent to Google Checkout, before you will receive the camper trailer. So, you will deposit the payment directly into the Google Checkout agent's bank account in Australia, either online or at most banks and they will hold and secure your money during the entire transaction. I repeat, they will hold and insure your money until receipt of the camper trailer in good condition and will release the funds to us only after you decide to keep the camper trailer and you register it, into your name. You will have an inspection period of 7 days. In this time you can check, test and inspect the camper trailer. If by any reason (the camper trailer has any hidden damages or is not like I describe it) you can reject the deal. In this case Google Checkout will refund you totally and they will deliver the camper trailer back.

Let me know your shipping details (your full name, full address and home phone number) so I can open a transaction case with Google Checkout and declare you as buyer. They will contact you with further information regarding payment and delivery.

Regards,

I also think they offer a full money back guarantee, they will tell you Google will hold the money until such time as you are happy with the camper.
Maybe even along the lines of, send the money to Google, use it for 7 days and when you are happy, you can release the money to the seller.

Grab a line from the email, or even a couple, and chuck it in a google search.. You may be surprised..

Anyone who is desperate, makes demands or is pushy, tries to tell me what to do or even who is rude, doesn't get a chance to get a step closer to looking at my cash
even if legitimate.

Thanks guys,
These are the exact emails I got too.
The old saying- if it looks too good to be true, it probably is!
I can't imagine getting to point of parting with cash to them. Bad enough feeling having even got hope up it might be a genuine one.
How do we - cull these scammers?
Gumtree and EBay have quite a reputation for hosting scammers.
Thanks again
