4WD Interiors

I am looking at a new 4wd and find that one of the key criteria is the internal fitout of the vehicle.  You spend all of your time inside the thing while driving - so I figure this has to be an important consideration -especially when the missus has to come along for the ride!

I have had a look at the Patrol - and while I like them as a vehicle, I find their interior bloody awful. It just looks so "plasticky" and cheap and if you have ever had a look at a second hand one they look like they deteriorate so quickly. I like the Pajero and think the interior is slightly better than the Prado and Landcruiser (excluding the 200 series which is way out of price range).

So what do you think? Which offroad vehicle has the best interior?

Paul, I don't disagree with your description but suggest that the Patrol interior is actually highly functional for the use and environment in which we would all love to use one. It's easy to wipe out and clean the dust out of.

I like the 200 Cruiser interior a lot, but the Discos/Rangies are the ultimate in interior opulence.

Our Jeep is fitted with a speed limiter.

At 110 in 100 zone, it gives an audible warning and anything over 120 it starts punching me in the left arm.
I DON'T CARE HOW NICE THE HAND SOAP SMELLS.....

You should never walk out of the public toilets sniffing your fingers.

Yep, Had a TT600 that gave incredible pain to the Kidneys when on the back wheel.
And somehow it has turned into what you have mentioned, weird, just weird.  ???

You don't use magic to disappear, all you need is a 4wd & a Swag ;)

I have a Pajero and am very happy with it's interior - well laid out, easy to see and use dials, and super comfy chairs.

As you are in Adelaide you are welcome to come and have a look/drive if you wish.

Agreed.
5 hrs straight through Narrabri to Gosford, felt fine at the end except for a  bursting bladder.
I got a sweater for Xmas, really wanted a moaner or screamer.

Thanks for the offer John. We have made a nuisance of ourselves at car yards recently looking at a new tug.

PS I am hating reading about all these meets going on and being planned on the east coast. Might be time for an SA swaggers get together soon.  :cheers:

Slightly off topic but I HATE the new style dash where the stereo is not a standard din size, why have the stereo a weird shape?

I might want to upgrade but that is now to an option? Stupid

I like my Hilux because its simple, simple knobs, simple stereo, simple display, simple gauges, simple to add accessories.   the seats are not as comfortable as I like but I am broken and I doubt any chair would be as good as the leather recliner I am in now.

It is definitely subjective and that's why I wanted to hear people's views on why they thought a particular model is best.

I did think the patrol was rubbish as I thought it looked cheap and deteriorated real quickly. Sorry to upset any Nissan drivers. I liked the Pajero as it looked neat and modern with everything looking comfortable and easily accessible.

I guess then there is also the SWMBO factor to consider too.......

Na, just was askign what info you wanted.. wasnt having a go.

In 4b's I like the Pajero.. shame about the rear suspension and towing and the all round suspension for harder 4wding..
If you want functional but rubbish, look at the defender.

We looked at Holden Astras few yrs back (and honda, and Mazda, and a few others), and while there I jumped in a HSV thing, think it was a GTS (yes dreaming) and couldnt believe how cheap and plastic the interior was. the glovebox lid had rough edges that hadnt even been sanded or rounded off.

I just think its a sign of the times. Everyone wants cheap.. well you dont get quality and cheap. Unless your a 1 eyed Jeep fan.

Nah Lost. I wasn't offended just keen to hear people's opinions.

For us we will do the holiday trips and the occasional bigger trip, but most of the time we will bre driving it around town, to and from work etc, so the workhorse towing factor would only be clawed on every now and again.

As big jules said, if you are getting it out and dirty every weekend then the patrol would be good as the interior is easy to clean and is simple to use.

Don't like idea of a speed limiter though that punches your arm......ouch.

Don't worry about speed, the "limiter" pretty much puts the lid on everything doesn't it?

Costly to upgrade too.....

Luxurious.? Your looking at range rover Vogue /sport,  Mercedes G wagon /ML series.

Then if your looking at those,you've also got Porsche cayenne even though its super ugly. Audi,BMW,take yourbpick of the high end models.
Range Rover is probably still the bbest combination of luxury and off-road capabilities.

Agree with Lost, been ina lot of supposedly quality cars and no way I would by half of them. A simple tap of the dash to see if in just a few Ks whether you'll soon get fed up with the constant rattles and squeaks.
Why do people ask "What the hell were you thinking?"
Obviously I was thinking I was going to get away with it and not have to explain it....
