Which Porta Potti

Finally convinced the wife we have to get a porta potti as 5 weeks in Tassie i think we  need to.
We no nothing about these is there one manufacturer better than others for some reason, in  the way they work and are designed ,parts etc.And what alternative chemicals etc do you use and any tricks .

We ( I mean wife). Has a thetford and is happy with it. We had a cheap big w one first and it broke after a few trips

Thetford as well, no problems.  We also use the thetford chemicals, they're a bit more expensive, but never any hassles.  I tried the nappisan once, but wasn't happy with it, however many people swear by it.

Yeah, Thetford for me, I mean the wife too, seriously tho we take one water skiing and with all those lovely young ladies, sometimes we are emptying twice a day . Had for about 10 years now and never had a problem with it. I use Thetford chemicals too

LOL..

We got the Aldi one and chemicals for my wife... Its only used overnight with her chinese bladder and all ;)
Works well, no issues, has a holding tank bigger than the water storage, which, surprisingly, some don't....

 Webought ours from Lidl, surprisingly underneath its actually a thetford dunny. Has the 2 holders underneath for the small bottles of the pink and blue liquid you use. Came in no name box with budget price tag.

As mentioned, careful for one that holding tank is smaller than the flush tank
 At least when club tank is empty,it's a reminder to empty the bottom tank.

We use a Dometic and are very happy with it....

We also have a Dometic 976 for sale ( it was too tall to fit under the bed of the new van , so bought the smaller size one ).....going at a very good price ....listing is in the for sale section.....and price could be negotiable...

Ours came from fleabay, from a bloke with a 100% feedback selling a few of them
Couple of yrs old now, & the only problem has been not able to find a canvas storage bag for it without getting one custom made.

Here's my notes for using the napisan. Taken from many different discussion about usage, & hasn't let me down yet...

Best advice I've been given was never to empty them straight after using - if you get back from a long weekend away, leave the loo sit for a day or two so the chemicals can work their magic before you go near it. They need time and temperature to work, otherwise you're dealing with effectively raw sewage.
You can't always do this when you're on the road for an extended period of time, but I've found it works really well for shorter jaunts when you can afford the time.

After emptying and rinsing the cassette, dissolve two capfuls of nappy soaker (preferably Coles or Woolworths Home Brand) in a jug with about 300ml of hot water, add a squirt of Morning Fresh and 3 or 4 drops of eucalyptus oil and pour into cassette.
For cleaning the toilet: Place 1/2 capful of nappy soaker in a jug, add about 500ml warm water and a squirt of Morning Fresh, then pour into a spray bottle.
After flushing, squirt a small amount into toilet bowl; apart from freshening the bowl, the Morning Fresh will help lubricate the seal.
This 'brew' can also be used to clean the seat, lid etc.

I've got a Dometic 976 too.  I really like how the top tank is pressurised by the piston pump.

I used these toilet bowl liners the last time I went away, I thought they worked well, toilet stayed clean and the other benefit was we did not use as much water flushing, so it takes longer to fill the bottom holding tank.

With the cleaning part of it....Yes, at this point it is my job. My other half is learning to enjoy the outdoors, so I am looking to make it as enjoyable as possible for her, so we can do it more, and go more places. At this point, our Aldi PortaPotti is only used for #1's, but once we go further and start getting away from places with amenities, this may change..

Great compromise. Sometimes making things a little easier makes it all that more enjoyable.

Also x2 on the leaving of it to empty it, didnt know,but makes sense and good advice. Something you probably wouldn't think about.

We have an Aldi toilet which is fine. We have only used it for at most 3 day camps and never had to empty it while on camp. I totally agree with leaving it for a few days, but I discevered this by accident. We wnet camping and got caught out by a storm and subsequent week of rain when we got home. The toilet was the last thing on my mind and so sat there for a few days until I emptied it. There was no smell and it all cleaned up really easily. Since then it always get left till last and I cerceratinly wouldn't call it an unpleasant experience anymore (well except for one time when I forgot to put the chemicals in  :-[)

Thanks again everyone for all the advise on my question and as someone mentioned we are all learning on this one which makes it all the better.I did purchase over the weekend a Thetford 165 which was at least $50 off the normal price plus they thru in a heap of chemicals. I wanted what was on the forum for sale by Gronk a Dometic 976 but couldnt convince the other half to purchase seconhand .Thanks again Gronk for the offer good luck with the sale.
