Need to answer this. I was talking to a solicitor friend who works for a local council and he said you dont have to mow it, just ask the council to attend but dont expect them to mow it on your schedule.

Exactly what I do if I see extremely unkept nature strips in my local area. Usually gets mown within a couple of weeks.

Isn't knocking stuff off from the tip the same as knocking off gravel from the side of the road to help ya mate concrete a slab for a garden shed?

Anyone remember that? An old Holden 1 Tonner, 2 mates, 3 shovels, rubber thongs and blue singlets, = a ute load of sand and gravel in under 4 minutes. Or am I still stuck in the 90's? ;)

Shane.
With enough horse power, sheer ignorance and a total lack of respect for your vehicle, you'll get through....

We have just had a council general rubbish pickup. I through out a dishwasher and washing machine and both were gone the same day by fossickers. No probs with that but when people search through your rubbish and spread the pile 5 times bigger than it was pisses me off.

That happens here in Brisbane too. It's the speeding, overflowing trucks driven by these clowns that peeve me off. Its a huge race to see who can get the best rubbish first.  ???

Taking others problems onboard and baying at the moon eh? Time to get away from it all again ;D

I always thought it was put there as a return on our rates & taxes.
That's why they're signposted as "Stockpile", let's you know they're not private piles ;)

O'yeah, it's not a 90's thing...it's just that trailers are used now because Holden 1 tonners don't exist anymore  :(

Well whaddya know a pic of the old digs-
http://www.flickr.com/photos/40132991@N07/3794033663/#
No better place to put it than next to the botanical gardens cos fossickin is hard work and a kid might need some shade and a feed of tamarinds or mangoes.

If anyone has a Yahoo ID then post this in the pic comments section and perhaps someone else will recall some more details about the world's first/oldest OHS officer-

"Unfenced, no warning signs and always smouldering, a kid could scrounge about for old pram wheels for a billy-cart or some other useful junk. Mind you it was hard work in those days as not much useful stuff got chucked out and there was always a bearded old bloke with gammy leg/s for competition. He rode around in a 3 wheeled home converted 2stroke scooter complete with awning with tassels on top and proudly named 'A la cart the happy wanderer'. He'd warn kids not to get too close to the burning rubbish piles lest they sunk into red hot smouldering rubbish below and lost some toes or a foot. A self-appointed casual OHS officer for kids as we dodged the tipper trucks with no adult supervision whatsoever. Those were the days!"

Thread revival...

DISCLAIMER: I am not a garbage rummager, normally!

I'm seriously pleased with myself today. hard garbage week in our neighbourhood next week. I went to a mates house today to pick up a welder he let me have. It a perfectly good and working Gasless MIG but he couldn't get on with it and has bought an Inverter Arc welder so has no need for it. Doesn't want to sell it as he thinks it junk and doesn't want any comeback. I've used it before it's fine for anything I ever want to do. Great start to the day...

I was driving home and past a large double story house and saw a pile of stuff being assembled on the curb side with a couple of young lads clearing out the garage. Under a garden table I spotted a Waeco 110ltr or 80ltr fridge.
I chuck a u-turn to go and have a look.

I've put a Waeco 110ltr in the Kimberley and hit the catches a few times already. I thought it would be good for spares. It's dusty but clean enough with one latch missing.

I asked the guy in the garage if he minds if I take it for the spare latches. Turns out its a 110ltr duel zone one. He reply that one latch is broken and it has no leads but, help yourself, that's all that wrong with it.

I quickly thank him, and load it in the back of the cruiser. As I do so a bloke in a 70series pick-up spots me and I could tell from his face that he was gutted that he wasn't 30seconds earlier.

Puzzled by the comments the young bloke said and never being that lucky, I quickly got home and decided to plug it in to the Kimberley, not expecting anything to happen.... Whoosh, it fired up! I couldn't believe it. Then thought to myself, yeah but it's never going to get cold...  ???

1 hour later, -5 in the freezer and 3 in the fridge! No, surly not!  ???
Been running for most of the day now pulling just under 2.5amps per hour!

15mins with a bottle of kitchen cleaner and it's nearly as good as new. Trip to getaway outdoors and $15 has a new latch installed and ready to rumble!

We now have 220ltr of beer cooling capacity.

Some people in Perth must just have too much money or really hate selling stuff!  ???

Still, it made my day, maybe even my week and we have several friends we camp with that will love to borrow it so it should put a smile on there faces too.

Lets get in to " Road Side Shopping in the Green lie "  lts a very basic thing Hunter / Gather its been going on for years .
As we don't have to kill to eat some of us still like to hunt . This long winder post about the ups & downs of it all are really great to fill posts but to come home with a new toy to play with is really the best thing  .
My 1st Engal didnt come with the 12v lead  but it had the 240v worked for 6 years till l sold it to upgrade . RSS (Road Side Shopping ) kept me in cooking gas for years  , furnished part of 2 houses , helped me to fill 3 large sheds twice over & have 3 or 4 garage sales a year . My clients would get me to take stuff to the tip , sometimes it got there , sometimes it went home . lts almost easier to tell you of the stuff l have paid for than the scrounge .
Did any body have any problems with Skip Dipping or is that another topic  ???
Seek & yee shell find   .      :cup:

Prodigy, take a prozac and chill out fella.......

Lay off the drugs mate, I've no idea how the thread started from a great find of a fishing rod at the tip to your last three posts of whingeing abou strangely bizarre stuff.

Post up great finds at the tip/roadside hard collection and join the fun.
chill out fella.

Agreed, what started out as a light hearted thread did'nt take long to get turned over by a member who is obviously off his meds.

Lighten up fella...

So if the footpath and everything on it belongs to the council, why do I have to mow it out of my pocket ... oh yeah, whole other topic.  Sorry.

Kit_e  >:D

I live in a street in the Logan Council area and the Council would mow the nature strip every few weeks when needed in summer and randomly at other times.
We received a letter from the Council saying that in response to many residents asking the Council to stop the mowing and that the residents preferred to do it themselves, the Council had put it through a meeting and adopted it as a by-law that all the street residents were from then responsible for the mowing.
I queried this and asked for copies of the alleged residents letters as I thought the Council were a pack of cheap lying bastards and only wanted to save the dollars, and was told an emphatic NO, and if I didn't like that
I would have to go through the process of lodging an application for the Rights to Information  which would cost dollars, take up to 6 months and still wouldn't give me anyone's name or address for privacy reasons.
That reinforced my opinion of the Council.
Would I be safe in assuming removing the cut grass from the nature strip would now be theft of Council? property.

My father walked into a tip with a battery and drove out in a HR, with rego. Drove it till the rego died and dropped it back to the tip. Made sure he took his battery out though. Lol

I have not made the level of a Fridge yet, but have done very well out of the tip.
On the Gold Coast, we have large bins you back up to and offload in which the trucks pick up, different bins for different things.
Scavenging in not possible, but if it is on the other guys ute still, no worries.
I scored a Kiwi made, cast alloy 5 piece out door garden table and chairs from a guy 1 day.
A park bench for the garden another.
3 x busted bikes, that I fixed and sold on gumtree for $110
A Scott Bonner Drum Mower that I have started to fix for myself.
When fixing some bikes to sell, I asked the council guy for a busted bike for spares, he said no worries, so I went into the scrap bin and came out with what I needed plus a girls bike suitable for a 4 year old with the $189 price tag on it still, pumped the tyres up and the kids are still playing with it.

Then, I started this lawns caper for work, and now have been paid to take away.
A 3 x 3m garden shed, $150 on gumtree
7 Bikes in total so far. Sold on GT for $240
! large tool box for the ute, kept it.
Water Proof Laundry shelving units. Kept it
Shed shelving units, Kept it.
Out door coffee table style fire place, with a bag of fire wood, used once, came with the stand and 4 different poker things, brush etc. Even came with a great yarn of how it filled the house with smoke and cost a thousand bucks or so to have it cleaned. That's now sitting out the back for my fire bug missus to play with...  ;D

Sure there are more items I have sold on GT, just can't think of them now.

We all still get to have a look at whats on offer at our dump.

A fairly tidy 2000 model commodore went in today.

Our dumpies recommend shopping there before going to the local Mitre10.

I needed a couple of gas bars for the boat BBQ a few months back, 90 something each from BBQ Galore..... $1.00 each at the waste disposal plant, formally known as "The Tip."
I DON'T CARE HOW NICE THE HAND SOAP SMELLS.....
