Navara D22 2.5 chip question
« on: October 28, 2012, 04:50:13 PM »
Hi all a question that has probably been asked times before I am taking delivery of a new 2.5 navara now what chips are the best plug n play and is there warranty issues.
I have just started looking and they vary in prices but would like to know from guys that have them or know about them.
Cheers

I wanted to get a chip for my 76 series but decided that the warranty comes first. My fourby mechanic suggested that I can take the chip out prior to service but that sounds like too much hassle. I am getting the Beaudesert exhaust which will be a big improvement in power like my previous Prado. I reckon around 8-10 % extra power. IMHO

Spoke to ARB the other day he told me a chip for my d22 3.0 diesel would increase power by up to 30% while saving fuel, cost about $1200. Being mechanical challenged myself does this sound right? Sounds to good to be true.

I have a chipit chip and scotts rod 3" exhaust on my Colorado.
Exhaust is fantastic, $799 delivered and would certainly reccomend.

as for the chip....do some research, basically there are two ways of making power on a diesel, 1 is add more fuel pressure, 2 is inject for longer (at same fuel pressure). Both combined with more boost to keep the exhaust temps down.
If I had to buy a chip again it would be a unichip, they are miles out in front of any others in the market, they not only raise the pressure but also increase the injection time and allow you to change the injection timing (start/finish injection earlier) combined with 3D mapping.
No others as far as i'm aware offer that

Increasing fuel rail pressure can give fault codes etc
For my money i would install a steinbauer chip...
Just changes injection duration
Stock.... 110 kw ...314 nm
Chipped..132kw....377 nm
Just my opinion here mind u

As an aside, I would be very wary of this particular company. My father purchased a vehicle from one of the owners in August last year. When we test drove the vehicle it had one of these uni chips installed, however when my father agreed to buy it he was told that the chip would be removed as they were having supply problems and had already " promised" the chip to someone else as part of another install. The owner said as soon as they get more supplies he would get the vehicle back and install. He listed the item as being the equivalent of almost $2500 fitted and tuned on the bill if sale. Since that time my father has never heard from him again, despite multiple phone calls which are never answered or returned. He sent a letter of demand via registered post which was redirected to another address and has since never been collected. I called the person myself on several occasions in connection with other issues and actually spoke to him but was fed some BS story about supply problems and he was getting some in soon and my father was top if the list etc etc. Total lies, the particular person is nothing more than a con artist. My father should never have taken possession if the vehicle, however he took the guy on face value and trusted his word.

I have installed a DTUK chip, i bought it from Diesel Chips Australia, quite impressed with the performance.
