Parks and Wildlife SA YOU SUCK!!!
« on: October 05, 2012, 07:48:14 PM »
Over the long weekend, we decided to blow the cobwebs of the camper trailer and spend a few days at cape Jervis. On the Monday we decided to have a look at Deep Creek national park trigg campground, 1 to have a look for a future camp and 2 to see if we could say g'day to other myswagers who were camping there.
Well we drove into the national park did a quick lap of the campground and was heading out when the park ranger pulled us over and asked for our park pass. So I explained we were camping down the road and that we just called in to see if the campgrounds were suitable to bring our camper for a future camp. Well he made us pay the park entry. :police:
Now I can totally understand that everyone may use that as an excuse not to pay. And I certainly don't want to do the parks out of money.
But surely we have the right to check out a campground before we pay the park fees. ???

Same here in tassie.  Its that bad that over at Mt Field National Park you have to have a park pass to drive 300m from the main road to have lunch at the cafe at the information centre.

I kid you not!   >:D

Maybe the ranger was having a bad day. He might of had a day of picking up broken glass in fireplaces, washing down toilets that somebody has decided to smear crap all over the walls or somebody burnt the picnic tables. All with government beuracratic rubbish written by desk jockeys in head office making his life a lot harder than it needs to be to do his job.

Or he is just a prick.

Be fair. It's about 5 kms from the self registration stop to Trigg campground.

there is actually 2 self registrations  one a couple of ks from campground the other at camp ground entrance, so what you are saying Marschy you need to pay just to drive to the campground??

When in Tassie we got a month's park pass ... cheaper than paying all the seperate fees.  I just don't know why the Govnmint must continue to treat each state as another country.  There are things that SHOULD be national ... this being one of them ... just like in Qld ... and it can be the same for all states ... drive where you like and pay to camp.

I guess one way of looking at it is that it is a National Park and you pay to 'enter the park', not just camp at it. A national park is a national park. Would you do the same at Uluru or similar saying you just wanted to check it out before deciding if you thought it was worth paying to visit or stay at?

Not being a wise guy, but just trying to see the issue from their viewpoint.

Maybe in hindsight a quick call to the local ranger or visit to the information centre prior to visiting may have avoided any confrontation.

We recently called into a NP in Tassie and didnt have a parks pass, we popped into the information centre and asked if we can look at the camp sites (approx 6 klms away) with out a pass and the ranger said no problems at all. We are not NP campers as a rule but are now buying a 2 year pass, we were impressed with what was on offer, the price and the friendliness of the staff.

Agree it is a joke as not all parks in SA are like that. I kind of got caught there a few years ago doing the same thing. Got away with it when I sai I only ha a $100 note an i he have change. Lucky for me it is probably the only time I ever had a $100 note. He said dont worry alet me off.

Now  am in Queensland and have to deal with their stupid system where you book sites on the net that you may not be able to get to with the camper. Some how I don't think they give your money back

Hi kit e
Now that would be the sensible thing a yearly pass state wide and pay to camp :cup:

Paul
We did try and call the park ranger not to see if we could take a sticky beak, but to find out how busy the park was. This was on Sunday only to be greeted by an answering machine saying sorry closed office hours are between 8 to 5 Monday to Friday so we left a message with our mobile number and still yet to be contacted.
It was not the case of checking out the park before deciding to see if it was worth paying. But to see if it was suitable for my camper and young family for a future camp.
If we had gone there for a park visit or use facilities the fees would have been paid.

It sounds as though it was the Trig campsite host who asked you to pay the car entry fee.

If it was a ranger you would have copped a fine.

I reckon he did you a favour.

Marschy that's what Shitted me the most, the trig campsite volunteer was at the 1st campsite as you drive in on the left to which we acknowledged. The park ranger and there was 2 of them were collecting money from the 1st registration and stopped us on the way out.
Fine me,make me pay the day pass as a rule but don't say "there is no issue checking out the campsite, but that's what they all say mate"
