The eternal question - How to tie up your pole guy ropes
« on: October 04, 2012, 07:13:16 AM »
Ok...so I think I have tried most ways.....and keep failing...so I thought I would go to the knowledgeable masses...

How do people tie up their pole guy ropes (and attachments), easily,  such that they are just and easily able to be unrolled to be used...and not some type of tangled mess after sitting in the rope bag.   ??? ???

Are rubber bands the only way and you have to just search for the rubber bands in the rope bag every time ???

How do you do it ??

I just roll the guy rope around the spring and slider thingy -- Then place the rolled up thing in our peg and guys box .. Never had a tangled mess yet ....

Go through your sock drawer and get all the single socks out, then roll each rope up as above and stick it in a sock.

Sig035 , - I only just got those twin glow ropes so haven't used them in anger yet .. Off to Tarra Valley next week for a photo r & r ... So I'll check out how they work ... They certainly seem to lock the rope better than my old wooden jobs ...

Mandrake,
let us know how you go with that type of rope and the SupaPeg....I've had enough of the wooden jobs on the stiff nylon rope.

Rollem up around the spring, throw them into a bag(small Horse feed Bag).
G'day MarkVS,
I replaced all the timber rope locks with 19mm Blue Line poly pipe.
Cut to 130mm lengths, a hole drilled either end through the pipe, about 20mm from the ends, it bites on either nylon rope or hessian rope.
Works a treat.  ;D

I have the female version to this answer (since I am the rope roller in our camp).  I have a coin bag (easily borrowed from any bank) and some thick lacky bands (easily borrowed from work) and lots of them.  The lacky bands get removed and stowed as each rope goes out (unless you are the Bloke and then the Sheila has to find them and return them to the lacky band bag ... the Sheila must also provide new ones if they break and bin the broken one).

I do a zig zag formation with the rope against the spring thing and then tie off with a lacky band.  Each rope is done seperately but the same.  Front awning ropes go together in one as they have no spring.  I also use a carabiner type thing on 3 of the spring things, where we tie up the dogs ... these get placed to the one side of the awning in a 3 dog formation away from the fire and their leads go up the rope with the lead attachment holding them secure (it's a technique we use to find the ends quickly if required).

Ropes we don't normally use are tied together in a seperate bundle in the same canvas bag, but at one end, so I never have too many ropes loose in there and it gives me no choice in which ones to use.  Pegs and hammer go into the same canvas bag and stowed together.

I have seen people colour coding ropes with pegs (with spray paint), but that seems too hard to me, especially if I'm in a hurry and it's dark.

Kit_e,

thats impressive... but I don't have the patience to do all of that.............I don't like having to play around with rubber bands and picking them out of the bag let alone seperate bags,  techniques etc.
