Food Supplies At Birdsville?
« on: September 17, 2012, 07:33:45 PM »
We are off up the Birdsville Track leaving Friday - can't wait!!

Anyway we will want to re-stock up on our supplies when leaving Birdsville and the only info I can seem to find is that they have an Auto & General Store, as well as having a bakery.

My dumb question is how extensive is their general store when it comes to food supplies, or is there an actual supermarket of some sorts there?  :-[

From what I can remember from our trip in 2011, between the bakery and the roadhouse there was all you could need..

Roadhouse even had fresh fruit at a price...

I just recently read a book about living in Birdsville.   They were there for a year.  They got together with all other Birdsvillians and ordered from an SA supermarket and got things trucked up.  Might not help you much, but it's an option.

Hi John,

Unless something has changed in the last couple of years you can get bread milk and basic supplies, but don't plan on a full supermarket style restock.  They had some fruit and veg and canned stuff and snacks etc.

Have fun, its a top part of the world.

I was there a few weeks ago. The Roadhouse had a well stocked, but limited line of groceries. You could easily restock your basic supplies there.

Hey John
When I was there you had to get in early especially at the bakery. Bread literally walks out the door. Find out what time they open and get there ten mins before. Cheers

We were there about a month ago and as said a basic restock can be done and the bakery has some nice stuff but it will all cost  $$$$$'s.

The bakery sounds great. Will check it out in a weeks time. We are leaving for Birdsville on Saturday but have no time frame to be there. Be looking for MySwag stickers.

Jkohn- things are reasonable (food petrol etc) at Birdsville, not so good at Innamincka, of course to be expected due to the isolation. And if youre anything like me, Id be stocking up on beer at Birdsville too, $85 a case of pale at Inna

We are arriving in Birdsville On the Wednesday from Innamincka. So your going via Cordillo Downs Road and you pass 24 cars with a Kangaroo on the side Wave at the 25th one that will be me :)

Don't know if we will make it by Wednesday but if we do will keep a look out for you JKohn. We have myswag stickers on the Prado and camper. Leaving the flag home to save weight. ;D My beer supplies were more important at that price.

JKohn it was a pleasure to catch you at Arkaroola. Wouldn't have spotted you without that flag, I'm going to make sure I get one now ????
It was a shame I didn't have more time. Look forward to seeing you out there again.

I seem to remember that the Bakery is only open certain times of the year (maybe that has changed) and unfortunately it was shut when we were there in 05 to our dissapointment.
