What a difference a week makes.....
« on: September 14, 2012, 05:56:17 AM »
This time last week, we were towing out the driveway for the half hour run to Inskip for the barge.  8)

If you exclude the hour and a bit we spent digging the whole lot outta da sand 6 times (I needed that like i needed an enlarged prostate) we still had a ripper holiday.

Today, i'm about to go jump in the shower then head off to work.
This morning i've got metres and metres of mulch to be shoveling then 4 mows to do after that.

Hmmm, i might just try to convince myself its sand i'm shoveling today and i'm still on holidays.

Oh well, friday night is pub night, so at least there is something to look forward to there.

Ah, the old back to work blues. All good things come to an end mate :'( Glad to hear you had a rippa first trip with the camper (that sand at inskip got us too!)
I am the complete opposite to you: on the train heading into my last day of work for 3 weeks ;D WOO HOO ;D This time next week I'll be waking up in the camper in Tassie. (sorry mate, don't mean to rub it in.....)
But you're right; tonight is pub night, so

6 times! Why was that do you think? Too much pressure in the tyres, hung up on the centreline, too heavy?

Tis very dry up here at the moment Jules, haven't had rain in weeks and I would say the sand is very dry & you just sink. Haven't any first hand experience but i would assume that was the problem.

Good to hear you are back slaving away like you should be  ;D

I agree with you though ... TFIF!  Yep, I'm also off to the pub (well sort of ... does a bottle or two at home count?).  Tonight I'm doing a last pack of things for our weekend away tomorrow ... we're going as bush as you can get in the Big Smoke ... somewhere in the hills south of Gatton!   :cup:

Yep, still had a tad too much air in the tyres.

Yep, we were most likely just a little bit heavy.

Yep, was dragging the guts on the sand in the middle.

The buses go through and chop the crap out of the tracks.

But the sand was just pure evil, honest. When i was digging us out, a deep voice from inside the sand said, i want your soul.

I nearly pooped my pants, so i got Mrs Creepers to do the digging after that while i waited in the jeep, with the doors locked.

Hey Bunyip, pics will be coming up on the week-end.

Hey Brickie matt, don't take this the wrong way, as i'm sending my love with it too ya see, but go get a big woolie one up ya.
Oh, and have a nice holiday....... mongrel.  :D

Don't be afraid to dump air out of your tyres.

On my first trip to Fraser it was hot and dry and I got stuck on the long uphill from Eurong to Central Station. I had to go as low as 10PSI in the Cruiser and camper but that sorted it and I was away. You can always pump them up again once you're out of the bog/have time/can be stuffed/missus has stopped yelling at you.

A woolie what up my where?.......ohhhh, I see.....

Jeepers, I feel I must make an apology to you as I may have, as Bunyip pointed out, been a little cruel earlier on. You see, in all my excitement and joy of having my own upcoming trip, I was completely insensitive to your newly acquired PTBS (Post Trip Blues Syndrome).

PTBS, or wishwewerestillawayitis, is a very serious disorder, not uncommon amongst many of us here (I myself have suffered it on several occasions). Symptoms can include gazing into the middle distance for long periods of time, reliving the fun you've just had, or starting every sentence with "When we were at........."

Fear not though, for PTBS can be cured several ways; posting a trip report with heaps of photos (so you don't get one of these  :worthles: shoved in your face), or planning the next trip away can do wonders for the soul.

So please accept my apology Jeepers, and next time I shall try not to be such an insensitive bastard; after all, I'm expecting a dose of it soon enough myself........did I mention I've got 3 weeks off to go to Tassie >:D >:D

Cheers
Matt

I agree keepers, that Matt is a proper Bas@+d, hear I am getting ready for three weeks away in the red centre and do I rub it in, do I mention that I will be enjoy a nice cold bear in the Birdsville hotel next weekend. Or that the mungeranie hotel is another great spot for a beer and a swim in the hot spring.
I won't even mention William creek hotel or Coober Pedy or uluru or...
Oops, wasn't going to mention that.

How is education supposed to make me feel smarter? Besides, every time I learn something new, it pushes some old stuff out of my brain. Remember when I took that home winemaking course, and I forgot how to drive?  (Homer J Simpson).

Not sure what happened to Uluru in my first post but fixed it now.

After that Kings Canyon, and Alice Springs the we may tackle the plenty highway back to Boulia. If not we will cross the Barclay highway back to Winton.

Those busses up at Fraser are a bugger, especially around Indian Head, they just sit there and churn till they pull through.

Yep. We nearly became a mobile speed hump for one as we crested a rise just past Eurong heading into Central Station. I'm frantically trying to back down hill and find a spot to pull off the track and he just kept coming at us. He was that close I swear I could see some of his breakfast stuck in his teeth! Bit scary that one.
