I am camperless...................
« on: September 12, 2012, 07:14:59 PM »
Renee and I decided to flick the CT we had. It sold yesterday. So I am on the look out.

I have been considering some early 2000 model Cub's etc, and love the idea of a hardfloor for ease of set up and restriction of the amount of crap we can carry.

I have also just found this also, http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/centenary-heights/caravan-campervan/custom-made-off-road-8ft-x-7ft-trackabout-camper-trailer/1004875627

My kids are 5 and 7.

If you were shopping around the 10k mark what would you be buying?

Cheers Nomad.

There's a couple of Aussie Swag campers on Gumtree for round the $10k to $13K mark. I picked up a 2002 classic for $10,500 :cup:
Cheers, John.

I have looked at a couple of them. Most at the moment seem to be mid to late 90's models. Theres a 1999 model out at Laidley that looks ok, from the photos. Will have to actually view a few to see the condition of them.

Mr Bitchi,

You weren't out at Spring Gully last Saturday were you?  If you were, I have a photo of you set up under the trees.   ;D

You made a good decision to move on, had served you well, but it was cutting into your camping time with the setup.

Good luck with your search.

Jules,

The best thing is that it taught me everything I don't want in a CT.

My last two trips have been in a swag, and I am much happier going back to basics with all of that.

When we were on Fraser I was already thinking about all of that and you mentioned something that just confirmed all of that to me, so thats has helped me along the path.

In all honesty the hardest thing about moving that trailer on was selling it with conviction to someone that I know is going to be feeling the same way about it in a year or so.....but they have to learn their own lesson to I suppose.

Cheers mate.

Lost,

It was a CCC, Cheap Chinese Camper, brand name doesn't need to be mentioned.

It wasn't so much the brand that was the problem.

The tent was so big that it got ridiculous. 7 metres by 2.75 metres, plus awning etc. It was really like a one bedroom unit. And you could fit so much crap in it that we took everything that we didn't need. The Fraser trip was a culmination of all of that so I got home and took it all out and have been flogging off Shit on eBay since, including the CT itself.

I have kept my 2 x 100agm batteries and a few other bits and pieces and am starting again on a lean and mean basis.
If I can live with a smaller hard floor for a few years, like the Aussie Swag that you posted, when the kids get a bit older they can sleep in a tent next to / under the awning and all will be good.

With two kids and a dog there wasn't much room in the car to carry stuff. But my dog is getting to old to travel and I can now leave him at home or with a mate, and he is happy with that. So I can carry some of that stuff in the car without compromising everyones comfort.

I just have to keep the levels of Shit carried right under control and that got out of hand with our last CT.

Cheers Nomad.
