« on: August 16, 2012, 07:01:57 AM »
Hi,

My first van and taking it on a long trip will post later on that.

I've got a good extension cord 15AMP 10 meters is this a good length

For water hose what length do you generally get I have 40mts but surely  thats too long I was thinking about 10Mts

Appreciate any comments.

40 metres is huge for a water hose, but there may be times when you need it. maybe cut it in half and have a joiner for it so you dont have to drag it all out if you don't need it.

Cheers Nomad.

Here for a good time, not a long time!

We carry a 20m power lead and at times it needs to be that long. Dont short change yourself cause you'll be peeved if you can't use a perfect site just cause your cord wont reach

I've been caravanning for years and I've never needed a 40m hose at a van park. Long hoses are cumbersome to pack/unpack/use so I use one around 15m long. 15 metres has always been adequate to connect at a CP but a longer one would have been handy once or twice for filling the on-board water tanks.  I would cut the 40m hose into two pieces (say a 15 and a 25 metre length) and set them both up to connect to a tap and the van. Carry a joiner as well then you have a choice of 15, 25 or 40m reach.

Would a food grade hose be benifical in this case.

Hi,
definitely don't use a 'cheapie' plastic hose from the chain stores, they will taint the water.
You can smell the plastic odour coming from the water at the end.
I use a Nylex braided hose (cost about $70 I think) and it does normal garden duties most of the time and have never had a problem with tainted water.
cheers

I find that two 10m hoses with fittings and joiners have accommodated all my camping situations.

Normally the 10m is enough and the other one as needed.

We started with a 10 metre power cable.  Often was not long enough so bought a 20 metre cable, and this has always been long enough in 18 months on the road in our Jayco camper.

Have a 10 metre food grade water hose that is nearly always okay. Because we have two 90 litre water tanks not too worried if can not connect up to water. Did by a cheap extra standard 10 metre hose as back up but have not used yet. Likely to have a plastic taste with standard hose.
