What is it with UHF user's.......
« on: August 12, 2012, 12:54:37 PM »
I posted this on Facebook MySwag also......

What is it with truckies, 4wders and anyone else with a UHF think its ok to continually swear there head off all the time. They dead set sound like a bunch of animals. I now don't have it on too much when the kids are in the vehicle due to these foul mouthed fools...It's not a private conversation and everyone else does not need to hear the crap, especially children. Pretty much have it turned off now......Really pisses me off....Sorry for rant...... >:( >:( >:( >:(

Hi
Ch 40 crossing through S.A. heading to W.A. was a bit of an eye opener for the Mrs. I was very tempted to get her to sweetly reply to some of the crudity.
Perhaps they were incapable of embarrassment though.
cheers

I agree, Teabag, its just amazing at how bad it is. Almost as if they've forgotten that they're on a public channel really. Meanwhile, the same blokes if they were in the company of women would be apologising at you for their swearing! I don't get it!

What really infuriated me whilst away was the people who thought that they could just use ch 5 as their own personal chat room. As an emergency services volunteer, my UHF is set to have ch 5 in the scan group and there was one day around Maryborough that it just kept hitting on this channel as two truckies went on and on about nothing. I was so close to picking up the handset and politely telling them to get off the emergency channel. I just couldn't bear to have the abuse hurled at me, however.

We did our best whilst away to get out of the truckies way. We'd call any up that were behind us, to get them to let us know when they wanted to come round us and when they did, we'd always let them know they'd clear us with a flash of lights. Often we'd get their thanks via indicator or UHF. Even still, I was amazed at how many of these drivers would often say that they didn't hear someone calling them up as they were on the phone! After this, I then took a good look at truck drivers passing by and was just blown away with how many were not using hands free.

At every chance we got, we used the higher channels for communicating. We were often on 64 but once we had two new travellers with us who had no new 80 channel radios we had to go back down, unfortunately. The radio is blissfully quiet up in the higher numbers as not many have switched to the new UHFs. It seemed that every other day we were having to swap frequencies to get away from others just randomly chatting. We avoid too much general chat as for us, the radio is for letting each of us know what is coming up and where we are going. If we want a general chat, we'll stop and have one!

Sydney is probably the worst for complete cr@p..... In any case the best way to deal with these morons is turn your unit OFF
This is what I do in the truck every day and it works fine.

G'day Teabag,
No need to apologize for the rant, I would think anyone with any kinda of respect for others wouldn't behave like these tools do. The gene pool is pretty murky at one end and it's gone beyond a good dose of chlorine to try and fix it.
Some of the banter at times is really funny and I struggle to drive in a straight line, there are some funny buggars out there and a lot have a very sharp wit and other you wouldn't even sick with a knife and hang from a tree to use as pig bait.
I have no idea what the ones with the gutter mouths are trying to achieve, except to prove that they there should be some serious culling to be had, we really don't want these things breeding.
Yeah, and it's pretty bad when the wife & kids cop an ear full of it.
I guess there isn't much we can do about, unfortunately  >:D

X2

before I got crook we found a solution a few years ago (well for that trip any how). We had a shocky die when towing a full size van from Sydney-Sunshine Coast it heavy rain. We were about to turn it off due to the every 2nd word issues when a car coming the opposite direction crossed in front of us. Our front end got out shape but thankfully kept it together. We continued up the road for a safe place to pull over & inspect only to keep hearing the same fowl mouth that was carrying on before only this time he had me in his sight. I tried to be polite asked him to refrain from his language and said if he listened to the truck behind us tell him what had happen to us. He continued & offered to teach me (quote old man) how to park it. Yes please I replied. The other drivers told him to quite it, the guy behind us pulled up in front of me when I stopped. The other behind. He made it to the back of the van when I got out asking for him to teach this old man the lesson, only to see the him return to his truck saying he has a dead line to keep. The Mrs was near wetting her self laughing most of the way from that point on as the truck driver parked in front not only offered top follow us to our Palm Beach stop off but he called over the radio about the idiot who suddenly had a lamb roast dinner with Tom Cruise to attend.

Couldn't agree more Teabag, but it's not just the Truckies et all on the highways. I've come across it a number of times out on the tracks. Mostly young blokes banging on with crap, but occasionally there are examples of those who should know better letting rip as well. A polite word has worked in the past, but has also lead to some expletive filled abuse over the channel. We have our share of those lacking CDF in the 4WD and camping fraternity, but luckily, it's usually the exception, not the norm...

Hi Teabag
I have only ever had that happen once, and I simply put a rubber band around my microphone, to keep my radio transmitting, and played some loud music for about 5 minutes.  When I turned it off the radio had gone quiet.  The grandkids did not hear all the foul language, just their favourite Alvin and the Chipmunks music.

My wife gives them a gobbfull in her sweetest voice.....asks them if they would eat at their mothers table with those foul mouths......mostly fixes the issue and they move off to a non primary channel or clean up the chatter.

The only person who challenged her with what he was going to do to her....( not for publishing ).... Got put in his place when she asked over the air for someone to supply her the location of the nearest Police Station so she could take the rego number of the truck trailer into the Police with a copy of the sexual threat that she recordered made by the driver on her iPhone.

Hi,
if you only want to chat within a group, and not chat with the other users (though they can hear you), the group agrees on a filter frequency and use the ctcss built into most units.

cheers

Couldn't agree more Teabag.

The UHF in our car is the most over-rated and underused piece of equipment I own. It's never switched on, for these very reasons. A while ago I was tempted to upgrade to a new 80-ch unit, but decided there was very little point - I'd rather spend the money on something that I'll use when out and about.

Cheers!

I had a low loader carrying a D11 dozer run a red light on the weekend nearly taking me and my family out plus the car beside us, when i asked him on the UHF if he had trouble reading red lights he abused me like i was the one in the wrong and kept asking me if i could stop a 110t then i was welcome to have his job. This happened in a 60 zone, but i doubt he was doing less then 70, when i asked him how fast he was going and why didn't 1 of the 2 police escorts he had in front of him stop at the insection he went quiet and we never heard another thing from him. Wish i had access to the emergency channels to hear if the police had something to say about it all, the blade on the dozer was at the right height to cut us all in half.

This is an excellent tip. We should all read the manual and work out how to do this.

I use my UHF whenever I'm out of Sydney, for road reports, speed traps etc, or to chat with those myswaggers I'm traveling with. I use Group Scan (GS) over about 4 or 5 channels when in convoy but Open Scan (OS) when traveling solo. I have deleted Ch1-6 from Open Scan, haven't heard a worthwhile uttering on them ever, mostly morons.

I use the UHF only when in convoy to avoid the mindless swearing etc that goes on. Unfortunately there are a lot of people who think that swearing is a manly pursuit but it really shows a lack of respect and intellect. I worked in a very male centred place and the swearing was just as bad but usually from people who felt it gained them some sort of kudos.

There are some pearlers around Cairns & the Tablelands. Absolute nutters some of them.  Mrs T ends up turning the volume down so low that if a warning did come in, about a road hazard, etc. we can't hear it anyhow!   :'(
