Who Made That 12v LED Kids Night Light?
« on: August 08, 2012, 10:16:34 PM »
I have used the search function for the past 90mins now with no luck so this is my last resort!!

I remember seeing somewhere that someone had made up a little kids night light that consisted of about 3 or 4 little LED's attached to a 12v socket that they can just plug in when the kids go to bed and have minimal draw on the batteries and keep the kids happy at the same time.

Anyone know where these can be bought from - or who would be willing to make one (I am sure you could sell millions of them as I would be willing to buy one as would alot of my camping family friends!!)

JohnK,

Here you go...

I thought it was a good idea when I saw it too.

Should be easy to make for only a couple of dollars.

Where in Adelaide are you? Happy to help (I appreciated the "tour" of you camper you gave us at the Wilmington National meet.)

CouldEason be made with a 9v battery fitting instead of a cig plug. I imagine 9v battery would last days with such a small load and could be put anywhere???

Someone here ran a test with a 9v battery hooked up to a LED strip, and it did indeed last for days and days. I think they gave up in the end. That would be a great mobile solution, so long as you don't mind carrying a couple of extra 9v batteries around.

I love Pling's idea of the LED strip on the cig plug - solid gold. I have one of these in the walkway of our camper for a night light:

... and to be honest, it's too bright. Lights up the whole tent no worries at all. Lucky it swivels, because you can't have it pointed out into the tent and expect bub to sleep. So I'm on the hunt for something a little less intense as well.

Good luck!
Matto :)

John,
You sound like me... love a home made gadget (and always trying to come up with a better mouse trap!?)
I've been thinking about making something like you mentioned, but to be honest I think these are more convenient:

Being magnetised, we just 'stick' it anywhere around the tent where there's a metal pole.  It runs off 3 AAA batteries and I can't remember the last time I changed the batteries. We use two; one at one end of the tent when the kids go to bed and another at the head end of our bed... which makes it easy if one of the kids wakes during the night, I can just reach up and turn it on (tell them to shut up and then turn it off)
Anaconda sell them here for $6.49 (cheaper if you steal them!)

I'm not so good with advice... can I interest you in a sarcastic comment?

we have one of them with a remote control.. so kid wakes up, hit the remote, with the light being at other end of tent over kids bed, and everything is tops.

We just buy the real cheap garden solar lights , and at night take them off the spikes and put them upside down in the camper ( large base that way ) , and you get a good night light ......
