TV on iPad and iMac

I am looking to get a TV tuner for my iPad so I can watch TV in my bedroom wirelessly on my home network. Same with my iMac. Does anyone know of any products that they can recommend?

Hey Paul, Google "slingbox", it will do what you need!

Also, I don't imagine it would to hard to get it going whilst camping using a VPN or firewall pass through if your 3G is upto the task - haven't tried it but one of Telstra new "4G" sim cards in an IPad 3 may have enough grunt if you're near a tower but the data cost might mean you need to sell a kidney!

I use an Elgato eye TV Diversity which i find to be vary easy to use on my imac and stream to the ipad ,you can also start the program from your ipad if the computer that the eye tv is plugged into is on . http://store.apple.com/au/product/TS584ZM/A  , you can get better prices from JB hifi etc.

Just an update. I went with the Kasier Baas HDHomerun (now called Network TV Tuner). I paid $140 at JB Hi Fi and thought 'you beaut, go home and hook up, no worries...." However unlike the standard PC that has Windows media centre built in which is the in built program for picking up TV reception, Apple products require you to part with another $70 or so of your hard earned to download the appropriate software called EyeTV 3 to your Mac. However after cleaning out my wallet, I now have TV on my iMac and also wirelessly on the iPad. Which means I can now watch the Olympics in bed!!!!

It would be good if Apple looked at this, as it is a pain in the neck to not only buy the hardware to get TV on your computer, but also have to pay for and download software as well. Surprised some smarty hasn't made a cheaper software version to use. Knowing Apple though, they are always content for you to have their product, as long as you use it the way they want you to.

Paul you could have saved  a heap of cash if you had bought the Elgato unit. Works really well, especially if you have a good antenna. The little antenna that comes with it works well enough in a good signal area. I actually got good reception when it fell down the back of the front seat in my campervan. Go figure.

Yeah I know. If I had the heads up that it would cost nearly $80 for the freakin' software I would have looked elsewhere. I figure that's why I would let anyone on the forum know who is keen. I will just have to haggle my guts out at the camping show this weekend to make up for it.

So this is probably a really stupid question but I'm gonna ask anyway, so with this iDTV thing does it work whilst your camping? Like away from home?

If you have a 3G connection and a healthy data plan, technically you could.

It is basically picking up the signal from your home antenna that is picked up from your computer and then wirelessly pushing it to your iPad etc.

I am happy to stand corrected where I sit though.

I have a little HD TV tuner that plugs into the USB on my laptop. It has a TV program on the laptop and provision for an external antenna. $50 with software off Ebay.... too easy

PC sounds like a definite better for this stuff compared to Apple.

Overall though Apple still better.  :D

As long as you have digital TV signals at the campsite it will work.
No data/internet connection is required  and just think of it as a normal digital tv. The plugin dongle is a terrestrial DTV TV tuner and the IPAD is the screen.

 It will work as long as the digital TV signal is strong, you could always hook it up to a RV antenna to get a stronger signal.

There are times when, for mental relief, tv can be the best child sedative.

Generally when we camp the tech stuff is rarely used as we kids ( big and little) enjoy time together. All things in moderation.
