Life on the range

If you have been following our trip around oz then you will know we have had a few dramas.
Ive (stookie) been working for Honda in cairns whilst the car was fixed and recuperating the bank balance.
On our trip we are keen to experience things we wouldn't normally get to experience and with that have now landed a job on the cape as a cook on a cattle station, well lil has anyway. The station is 303km West of chillagoe or 200km north of normanton.
It's right in the heart of barra country and on the Mitchell river. There is a few station tracks that connect onto the main drag for the cape which we will have access to. The job is cooking for 15/20 working men 5 days a week. We get a 3 bedroom furnished house, all food , electricity and Internet. We have access to fuel at a cost and weekends off to go exploring. The station is on 1.8million acres which is one of the smaller ones for the company. We will get to experience life on the range and explore the cape with people that live there. Fishing will be a major pastime as lil wants some food that's not always beef.
I will be able to help out fixing engines and doing some welding and fencing if required but mainly just looking after the kids and riding the bike around the cape.
We are hired until November Then leave for the wet with a nice little  bank balance, enough to go traveling until the season starts again in April where if it works out we will be invited back.
There are 11 stations owned by the same family and we can pick up work at any of them once we have a season under our belts.

We put an add on Gumtree offering our services and boom.......
Letter of offer arrived today, I packed in my job, we leave on Saturday.

The camper will still get plenty of use as we can go to karumba and head out onto the station land to go fishing for the weekend so we will go where no camper trailer has gone before !

Sound to good to be true and we are still in a bit of shock about it.
Anyway, we better get packing......

Sound awesome mate I am sure the odd feed of fish for the station blokes will keep you in the good books. Post up some pics especially of your fishing escapades. I would love for my kids to experience this life. Enjoy the ride.

Let us know when you are getting close to here. We can help with a similar type of job if the timing is right. Viv works fr the folks that own 1,000,000 square kays of cattle station out this way and into the Bungles out this way and are always looking for good staff, you guys would fit that bill - seriously, let us know  ;D

Thats the Right Stuff , Its all very well to dream but its always a bit harder to just take the step .
Life on the wallaby can be so rewarding , its just a matter of going with the flow . l have spent many years out there & still remember how it went .
In fact l am at present untangaling myself from Melb for another lap . lm very interested to find out about the Gumtree  & how that worked   , Enjoy  :cheers:

Good stuff. And thats when you start to see and do some stuff that you cant experiance on a "holiday". There is nothing like planting your feet for a while meeting a few locals and getting into a few places that are out of the way.

The car is packed up and ready to go, stookie is going to ride the bike ahead and keep us updated on the road condition as braking for bull dust ruts or boggy holes with the camper on doesn't sound to appealing. The QLD roads say some parts of the road is closed, but the station people say its fine if you travel with caution. They said they can get a ute to come pull us through the river if we need it.........!
But we have some big Jules traction tracks so we are ready for anything.

We can leave as soon as we are ready and be there when we get there......
