Electric barbecue starter (heat bead type)
« on: July 14, 2012, 07:18:57 PM »
Just came back from Sweden and the BIL had an electric powered barbecue starter for the weber. Must say I was impressed how well it worked and was wondering if anyone has come across any over here?
I did find one place online but seemed a bit pricy at $50 + shipping http://www.easycharcoalbbq.com/

Understand they are not much use for camping due to needing 240v (800w) but intend to use it for home use only.

Cheers

Mark

'Tom' hasnt been online on myswag since February.
The link to the above write up on thebbq forum was edited back in March and its no longer there.
I looked at the loof lighter at bunnings today, $39.95
Was after some more feedback on one of these.
I normally use a little bit of firelighter if I'm using heat beads in the Cobb and I think keeping the bag under the patio, in a box, they might have got a little damp. Using heat bead brand.
I normally have been using the cobb stones, Cobb brickettes and the coconut husks ones, but if I'm just doing something small for the wife and I, then they burn for too long and are a bit pricey.

Wondering if the 'loof lighter' might be a worthwhile addition to the bbq series......?
Why do people ask "What the hell were you thinking?"
Obviously I was thinking I was going to get away with it and not have to explain it....

2 fuel bricks and bobs your uncle. It takes about 15 minutes, tops, to get all the brickettes glowing. More fuel bricks and it works even better.

Fantastic for getting charcoal going, I use the chimney for my Weber Go-Anywhere grill and also for getting a bed of coals going quickly for my brazier fireplace.

I buy 20kg bags of charcoal for about $30/bag. If I use them for only the Weber I get about 15 chimneys.

I use a basket like this on the butane .... Works well, as well.

I like the dedicated gizmo though.

Sawtoday,  instant light heat beads?  Anyone used them? Are they as easy as the pack says?
