Camper Trailer Advice

Hi all,
I am a first time poster who is in the market for my first camper trailer and was hoping to get some advice/guidance of some people with more knowledge than myself.

The camper trailer will be for my fiancee and I and would have to be able to be towed by my 2005 Triton 2 wheel drive ute. Unfortunately the towing capacity of my ute is only 500kg un-braked or 1500kg braked. As we are just starting out I obviously do not want to spend a fortune but was hoping to pick something up to suit our needs for about $4000-$5000 but am prepared to spend a little more than that if required. I would like something semi off-road preferably but the trailer would just be used in caravan parks etc most of the time.

I would be appreciative of any advise with particular brands/models that might suit my needs as well as anything that I should steer clear of.

G'day fraser keep a check on the for sale section on here some good second hand units come up in that price range.
Buying is the hard part using it is the fun part best of luck.

I was thinking of buying a new trailer only because of my lack of knowledge on what I would be buying in a 2nd hand unit.

Fraser, you're going to get a better deal 2nd hand in that price range, IMHO. The weight will be an issue, so I'd be advising that whatever camper you buy should have brakes, or facture the ~$500 to fit them, including a brake controller. It doesn't take much to get to 500kg.

Ideally an alloy camper would suit you, but I doubt there are too many in your price range. You can still get a good camper however.

Thanks for the prompt replies everyone, sounds like our best option might be to pick up something 2nd hand.

Ill have a look through the "trailer classifieds" now and see what i find.
Should anyone come across anything that they feel might be suitable to us please feel free to let me know.

Fraser Whats your location   , that could be handy to know . You might be able to catch up with other Swaggers in their CTs in camp , set up & happening . The tour would help you decide on what you would like to be looking for to start with  . When you do get your CT then we can talk your " Mods ".

I am based in Lismore NSW. I would be happy to travel as far as the Brisbane area if I find something suitable.

I noticed places like Emu Camper Trailers have new trailers for about 5k and can be optioned up how you want. Is something like this advisable or should I steer clear?

The problem is narrowing down the options.  Be prepared to spend plenty of time trawling this site and others figuring out what you want.  But for me, that was half the fun.
