Buying CT
« on: July 11, 2012, 11:20:44 AM »
Hi Swaggers
Without too many details yet, I have decided to purchase a CT.  My daughter is 21 later this year, and her husband, my son-in-law is with the ADF, overseas at the moment and I am buying it for her birthday, so they can have some camping time to themselves when he comes back with two months leave.
I was going to buy them a vehicle, but they have bought a new Troopy already, so this will make their camping holiday all that much better.
The CT is in Taree, NSW and I am remote in WA.  I am therefore wondering, once fully paid for (deposit already transferred), if there is anyone moving/travelling from the Eastern States in August/September towards either Alice Springs or Kununurra, where I could pick it up.  If someone would be happy to tow it, I would of course be happy to help with a share of the fuel costs, and naturally the CT could be used on the way over.
Thanks in anticipation
Regards

I'd love to help you out, sounds like a terrific excuse for a road trip, unfortunately I doubt I'll be able to swing it.

I'm in-between jobs and have the time. Would logevto do a cross country trip. I could deliver it for you.

Only problem I could forsee;
I'm in South west WA.
I don't have a reliable car. (My old car wont make it to the border.)

So, I reckon this is a pearler, how does this sound??

You fly me from down here up to where you are, I pick up the new troopy, you supply me with enough fuel money to drive there to Taree and back. I'll pick up the trailer and deliver it to you up there, you fly me back home again?

Ill road test the trailer for you and highlight any issues on delivery.

We can agree a time period, say 6 months or so.

I reckon that's a hell ova favour and you should snap up my offer real quick.  ;D ;D ;D

Any other swaggers want a similar deal,I'll be happy to oblige.
Why do people ask "What the hell were you thinking?"
Obviously I was thinking I was going to get away with it and not have to explain it....

Hi Cruisindub
That is an offer even I would take up, and pay myself.  The new troopy is not mine, it belongs to the daughter and son-in-law.  I will give you 10/10 for effort, but that one I will pass on.

Mate I live 5 minutes outside of Taree and as you know we are heading for WA at the start of next year. Gee it is tempting to go early though  I have even handed in my notice at work this week.

Hi Swaggers
I have specified August September for the movement of the CT, but that is not hard and fast.  My son-in-law will not be back until the last week of September, or the first week of October, so I do have a little time to play with there.

Actually BigJules, it is not helping me out, other than getting it here.  It is more important to me that my daughter and son-in-law have a great bit of time together.  The young bloke was deployed 36 hours after his wedding, so they have never had a honeymoon, and he has had three trips to some not so nice places in the last 2 years.  They have had a total of 5 weeks together in that time, so this camping trip means absolutely everything to them.

Thanks to MySwag, I am able to, and am buying, the small CT that CoryMelnKids have had for sale here on MySwag.
It is not flash, but looks more than what my daughter could have wished for, and the best bonus is, her parents will be able to use it... ;D ;D ;D

Thanks for the comment Chief Carlos, but the truth is that they are both fantastic young people, and contributing well in their ways to todays society.  She is a trainee nurse and he is a soldier, why would I not be proud of them and want to help them.

Speewa, if that is a serious offer to bring it over, I would happily make some arrangements.  Would have to be a sober trip coming over though.

I'm actually still trying to find out if anyone will be on the road, and able to tow a CT, even as close as Alice Springs.  I have not fully paid yet, but will be very soon, then hoping to get it picked up by someone reliable.

I am still trying to find out if anyone is coming towards the West at all.  I have found out though that a "brake controller" ???? needs to be fitted to the car, whatever that is.
I am a believer that things eventually will work out.

Brake controller needs to be fitted to the towing car as the trailer will have electric brakes fitted. Is this right everyone?

If this helps at all you can tow it with out the electric brakes hooked up i only fitted them to make it easier to tow. I use to tow it with my work Ute a 2wd hilux with out the elect brakes hooked up.
It just stops a lot easier with them working.
You would have to check with the laws in WA as you might be able to hook up a controller on the trailer.
You cant have then in NSW as it is illegal the controller has to be fitted in the car in NSW.

Thanks Cory, but I will get the brake controller in both vehicles anyway.  It will make it a lot easier to get it towed this way though.  No it is not compulsory in WA, just checked with a mate of mine in DPI WA (Licensing).

Give this mob a look, or google something similar. Now I'm sure someone could help get the trailer to a depot for you. Hopefully there is a depot in taree for it to be dropped at. Just a option as I think most people heading up that way would be towing something themselves. I would jump to help but I don't have any leave at work or someone to cover for the time to help out.
