Evacool fridge
« on: July 10, 2012, 11:29:16 PM »
Has any one ever bought 1 of these Evacool  fridge freezer units and found that its lost its ability to cool things or get cold but seems that it still works ok apart from not getting cold , if you have or know what I can do apart from purchasing a new fridge freezer , it would be most appreciated , it was only about 4 weeks old when this started playing up like this

that have jumped onto the bandwagon of importing Chinese crap and selling it with their name on it !

They have put lower priced imported models on sale, two variations actually.

I think you will find that one model is identical to the ironman ice cube, that is also coincidentally very similar in design to the ARB range, similar yet not identical. These units all use Danfoss compressors, as does Waeco.

The other model that Everkool have for sale is the Travel Mate range, these use a Domus compressor. The Domus was originally designed and built in Italy, but is now being manufactured in China.

All the models carry the Everkool name, so I'm sure that they will stand by the product regardless of its manufacturing origin.

No I don't work for or have any affiliation with the company what so ever. I did spend a fair bit of time talking with the owner at the Brisbane caravan and camping show, and was very impressed with the Everkool philosophy.

I can't see a problem with expanding a product range to give potential customers a choice in both design and price, whilst staying competitive in an ever evolving market.

Although some exports from China can be second rate, not everything that comes out of China is crap, especially on the electrical side of things.

I think we should applaud Everkool for maintaining a manufacturing base in Australia, rather than lambaste them. So what if they have diversified their product range to stay competitive. Thats good business practice in my book.

Cheers

Malcolm.

I'm sorry with the reply .
Yes they are an Australian company
Yes they stick behind their warranty
Yes they are importing chinese crap to diversify their business for the lower end market
Yes I have brought one of their cheaper fridges by mistake due to their name plastered all over it
Yes the fridge did fail within a week .... along with several others of the same brand
Yes they did honour their warranty , problem is that they had no parts or fridges in the country to honour their warranty with .

And yes .,.. I did end up buying one of their genuine Australian made fridge / freezers and am more then happy with it .

Cheers

Like the others.....give them a call.

I'm the proud owner of a 95lt Evakool fridge/freezer and they replaced the clips for free.

The only thing I'm cheezed about is that the distributor wants 1/2 hr labour ($50) to fit them (2).

My next mobile fridge/freezer will definately be an Evakool.

Take care out there.

Glad you go that out of your system, and you didn't implode from keeping it all bottled inside.   ;D

And there you go.  Like the rest of us (King Ling excepted to date perhaps), you are now more than happy with your EvaKool!

It all ends well.   :cup:

If your fridge is a Travel Mate..?   I was interested in the Travel Mate and did a fair amount of reseach including speaking to people who owned them and there wasn't anyone who was not happy with the fridge and some were 3 or 4 years old.

In saying that about 30% had some sort of problem including a compressor failure all of which were rectified or in case of the compressor failure fully replaced under the 2 year warranty by Evakool which partly explains why the owners were still happy.

I decided the risk was not worth it so went with an Evakool Fridgemate (yellow one) as couldn't afford the fibreglass model.  My reseach showed these are great fridges with less problems than the other 2 big name brands, are cheaper and have the ability to use as part fridge/part freezer or all fridge or all freezer.

To date it works great and seems to have very little power consumption.  I did note in the fine print on the 5 year warranty that unless the fridge is serviced at 2 years by an authorised agent the warranty reverts to back 2 years.  Also for the 5 year warranty to stand the fridge needs to be serviced every year after the 2 years.  The servicing is simply cleaning the dust off the cooling fins and checking wiring connections which can only be a good thing anyway as could save food going off or worse still hot beer on that next trip.

Cheers

Wartim.

Thanks for posting that Wartim. I have not read about that warranty requirement before. Good to know as my next fridge may be an Evakool.

We have an evakool travelmate. 55lt Domus compressor. Bought it before leaving on our big lap.
It's worked well with the only issue being operator error when we got a low voltage warning.
Checked the battery and it had 12.4v but due to the length of cable running to the back of the trailer from battery the signal drop was enough to trigger it.
We emailed evakool and had Corey sort us out with amazing customer service when in fact it was nothing to do with the fridge.
Our has been on now since April 22 2012.
It cost us $549 it's been a freezer and a general fridge. Its bumped around, wet, dusty and never missed a beat.
We have had to replace the fuse in the cig socket and that's it.
We have a 160 w panel and run lights, music, laptops, iPods and an inverter and it don't notice any excessive draw by comparison to an engel.
It's doing it's job and was 1/3 of the price of the bigger names.

We a very happy with ours and especially the education we got from tech support in signal drop and battery voltage.

If the spelling and grammar are good, it's a post from Lil. If not, the mad Scot is on the keyboard ;)

Add us on facebook and keep up to date with our big lap .

As King Ling knows i have a RF60l Evakool...Had it over 4 years now...Even had it working under a black tarp on a 42 degree day (only happened once i borrowed brother in laws dual cab)...Anyway at the end of the day bugga the fridge was on about 6 on the dial...The eggs and tomatoes were hard as cricket balls and the salad frozen...So what i am getting at they can be too efficient...

Since i bought the wireless thermometer and carry it in the vehicle i can keep and eye on temp, even put it on the table at camp...
