There is no "those". It was my decision, based on feedback I'd received from members and earlier discussions about the preferred direction of the forum. There are other forums if you feel over moderated here. And mate, it's not censorship, it's moderation.

There are plenty of other forms out there that focus on political and religious discussion, do we really need to have such crap on a camping forum?
Do not PM me for technical advice - start a thread.

Thats fine but I happened to enjoy reading those threads. Wasn't  that intested in posting much in them though more intrested in what peoples views are. The way i see it is you took action as you say after receiving feed back from people whom I refered to as those( the silent minority), I see it as them that were the ones that prompted the start of this thread..
I understand it was your choice to take the action but you wouldn't have without that feedback.
You say tomato I say tomarto.
What I see a bit of is, people trying to attack peoples choices and opinions too much
making it personal and I think that might have been some of the problem with those threads and thats where i would have thought moderation would have come into it, but i have a feeling you'd call that refereeing.
Just like that other thread. I questioned an item and next thing I'm under scrutiny being asked to provide scientific fact for asking a question and having an opinion based on an observation after viewing a video.
If those type of people bothered to search smittybuilt instead of starting some kind of personal attack they would've been a lot better off.
But I think that might have suited you, saved you a bit of work.
Thats where I thought some moderation would have come into.

Look forward to reading the edited version of this.

Fair call but please define general disscussion? I was under the impression that this was the location for such topics. Again, nobody is forced to read these topics. I don't read all posts as there is many topics that don't interest me in anyway....Carbon Tax is politics that affects everyone, even insulated camper trailer owners.....Political decisions can have broad effects. So, where is the line in the sand?

I was under the impression that MySwag was a place like minded people could discuss issues ( technical or not ) and not nessesarily specific to Camper Trailers? I see posts about many broad topics, do we ban them also?

More work for Moderators, more people get turned off forums...

I think we are lucky on this board to have some great mods... You yourself know what happens when you give the kids the keys to the board ;)

The less mods have to do, the more enjoyable it is.. I have 0 interest in politics really, its rubbish. it doesnt matter what I want or vote for, they are not there for me, so Im just sittin in back here planning my move to Hutt River Province smiling away.... ;)

As a Mod I have not noticed any increase to required moderation since the increase in political posts. Should we ban the Electrical section, that's what gives me generally the most problems.......:-)

I also know what the term moderator means but without any guidelines outlining the acceptable content when it come to politics in the general area, I think censorship covers this one.

By the way, forums OK. Just not happy with the censorship.

The WiKi version of moderation under 'Internet Forum' seems to cover the actions taken by the Myswag 'moderators'.  Nought to do with censorship.

The good name of the Forum is the paramount reason behind the action taken.

"Censorship" is selective moderation where only some views are allowed.
I think you need to allow the moderators some "ownership" of the forum so that it doesn't morph into something completely off-track.  Moderators give a forum its personality.  Like a real person, if that personality is too rigid, you'll lose friends.   This is a popular forum, so they seem to have the right mix.

Having said that, some politics is relevant, e.g. The Greens' policy/attitude regarding access to the bush.

I've been thinking about this whole issue and been flipping back and forth between 'yeah good idea Bigjules' to 'as long as it's kept civil why can't we', but I'm tending to agree with you Patr80l (and others).

BUT where do we/mods draw the line?  Either way, the forum (via Bigjules or whoever), need to make it clear on the General Discussion board what the new rules are.  They at least owe it that.  Otherwise you may have 'newbies' (or anyone not aware of "Pol-Gate 2012") starting a thread and wondering why no-one's game enough to reply!

Just goes to show the mods can never win.  Be too lax and people whinge about Shit fights.  Be too strict and we are caving in to the silent minority.

I'm sorry if this offends you, but would you like a mirror?  Or would you like me to point the way out?  Enough already!!!  This is an Offroad Camper Trailer Forum.  Talk Politics elsewhere, it's very simple really.  The Moderators do a very good job here and this is an excellent forum because of the way they moderate it.

I think the Origin posts are becoming more of a problem than the politics tbh.

My 2 cents worth, I thought the heading was General Discussion. It seems like it is now General Discussion sans Religion and Politics. If you look through the posts there are all sorts of topics in there and they are great to read.

I am with Teabag, we should be able to talk about just about anything, but where it gets personal or spiteful towards others that is when the line is crossed, not the topic itself.
