Compressor Air Hose and Fittings for ARB CKMA12
« on: June 24, 2012, 07:23:39 PM »
Hi Swaggers,

I have an ARB Air Compressor CKMA12 which I will mount under the drivers seat in the GU Patrol.
ARB are selling pump up kits (e.g. http://www.rocky-road.com/arb-air-locker-compressors.html) which include a high pressure and heat resistant air hose and fittings for $55 from a distributor.

Seems a bit pricey for an air fitting or two and 6m of air hose, what have others used?
Don't have too many air specialists in rural vic so can just go and visit for a chat.

Thanks

I use the ARB stuff as it reaches all the wheels and trailer where I have it located, just be aware that they use a strange coupling system that is only compatible to them, well mine is anyway

If mounted under the driver's side seat do you think the ARB line would reach all 4 tyres?
Do you also use the ARB Tyre Inflator? Any Good?

Thanks D4D - so you inflate then check your pressure with a separate gauge?

Also interested in other air hoses - fittings shouldn't be too hard to source, just not sure what other hose might be suitable?

Yes I use a Longacre gauge

I plan to swap the fittings to Nitto but that's another job I'll get to one day. As for hose it gets real hot, this is the reason they swapped from the blue hose to the orange hose.

My compressor is located next to the rear drawer unit, its out of the dust and dirt there. I have a length of high temp hose that runs to the underside of the drawer unit which is just inside the back door. From here the ARB hose reaches the trailer wheels (well it did on the Cooper, the Omeo is a little longer, better check next time its hitched up) as well as the front of the Patrol. I also just use the supplied snap on fitting and an independent gauge to check pressures. I like the ARB hose as it is a small diameter and rolls up tight out of the way.

Any reason not to use the ARB tyre inflator (or something similar) to inflate tyres to correct PSI?

With the supplied chuck you just leave it on the valve to pump up the tyre and walk away. I don't know if you can do that with the tyre inflator.

I've got the proper inflator (with the gauge) and reckon it's great. Yes, it's exxy, but I'm lazy. I used the standard tyre chuck for ~6 months, and was constantly having to adjust the pressures up and down to get them all right. With the inflator, it's just a case of "hold it on, count to 30, let go, look at gauge, 2 secs of extra blast/air out", and you're away.

+1 to the orange hose as well - it's fantastic stuff. Rolls up nice and tight, doesn't get too hot, unrolls easily without sticking to itself *too much*.

Highly recommended, if you can stomach the cost. On the upside, it's really well built, so will last a lifetime.

From memory, there was discussion on here a while ago about an off-brand inflator that looked identical to the ARB one, same fittings, and was ~$20. Maybe from Aldi? Maybe from an online seller? Can't remmeber - do a search and see if you can find it. No idea on quality, etc, but it certainly was cheap.

Good luck!
Matto :)

In my previous 4WD I had the ARB compressor, but I ran different hoses and fittings and it was a nightmare and these so called heat/high pressure hoses kept on blowing holes in the hose.

For my current 4WD I have the ARB compressor in the engine bay and just bought a ARB extension hose kit for $30ish dollars. How I can reach the camper trailer, fittings all match and no problems blowing holes in hose. I also use the ARB tyre gauge and it’s accurate enough for me.
