Toyota Tundra heads south
« on: June 24, 2012, 01:21:23 PM »
On Austar/Foxtel there is a show about three fellas driving a modified Toyota Tundra to the south pole.

One of the fellas is a head engineer with Lotus.

If you havent watched the show watch the youtube clip. They didnt take something with them - guess what it was....

The fact they built it themselves rather than getting Arctic trucks to build it says it all.

I haven't seen the show or clip. Is it the old model tundra that is built simalar to a 100 series or the new one? The new ones are huge, like a silverado 2500 wouldn't get through to many tracks here.
Here for a good time, not a long time!

The fact they built it themselves rather than getting Arctic trucks to build it says it all.

Or any of the off road race builders.  later on they split the lower control arm which looks standard pressed steel.  Should have been rose jointed at the very least.

Will finally get to watch the rest of the show at some stage.

Also, they were worried about the brake discs cracking due to the change in heat from -30deg to super hot which I think explained the fractured rim when the brake caliper let go.  Why not do away the brakes and run a decelerator on the driveshaft and just a handbrake.  Weird.
