I'm looking for something that's lighter than my mountain bike, and better geometry than my road bike, which I'll sell, as I get off it hurting every ride due to a buggered lower back...

I've got a second hand trader on the lookout for something in a carbon flat bar well - we've bought a few bikes through him over the years, and never been disappointed...

Just thought I'd throw up a pic of my "new ride" and my new project. The ST120 is completely original, from what I understand, right down to the tyres. The Y-33"s getting a period XT groupset (which I have) and Judy SL's. Just got to find a decent set.

about 3 years back I cleaned out my "collection". It all went to Steve White of Whites bikes in Melb. (an old school fan like myself)

he ended up with...

Wandered into the local Trek store today, to look at road bikes to replace my Giant TCR2, that's on chain #7, fourth rear cassette, second rear derailleur...

I really liked the Domaine 6.6 - carbon frame, inbuilt frame suspension/dampening, Ultegra (not Di2), and geometry very similar to my wife's Madone...

Has anyone got any experience with this bike?  Good/Bad?

Looking to put in 200-odd a week, to get over back surgery and strengthen up my system and get fit again...

I don't have any experience with the bike, Trek make good bikes and they have reasonable aftersales service, you do pay a premium for the privilege.

Have you thought of a gravel bike like the Norco Search? I'm looking for a replacement for my 26" Scott hardtail that I use for family rides/rail trails etc. I've got my eye on the Search for that task.

Nice... Did you pay RRP or get a better deal somewhere else?  I'm hankering for a carbon bike for my next one... I really like riding the missus Trek Madone ... The weight difference is very noticeable

I deliberately didn't look at that Norco earlier... I just did now. I like Reynold tubesets - at uni a mate had a DeKerf in 853. I never managed to get a Reynolds tubed Kona, but my old Kiluea is a steel frameset.

My first roadie was a Reynolds back in the 80's... Put easily 100,000 onto it before I broke out the bottom bracket during a race :(

Might have to do to the local bike shop and take a look...

Go to Bike Zone in Fitzroy and see Mocha, tell him I sent you. Found this place whilst researching gravel bikes, they are his speciality, he has heaps of steel and carbon bikes. You can see his prices on Bike Exchange, he's the cheapest by far. Carbon is great, my dually is full carbon with carbon bars etc. The carbon Search would be a much smoother ride, but at twice the price, and reading the reviews, there's not much in it ride wise between the two. I haven't weighed it but I'd guesstimate around 9kg, carbon model is about 1.5kg lighter, cheaper for me to lose 1.5kg. :)

Oh and yeah my first roadie was Reynolds so it's a little nostalgic. Interesting that alloy frames are now only in the lower end market, carbon, steel and titanium are the go now.

Yeah, although lower spec groupset on the carbon, Apex 1 vs. Rival 1. That said for $500 extra the carbon is good value. I'm keeping it real with steel :)

Me either, I normally ride Shimano. From what I can tell, Apex is their base spec equivalent to Tiagra, Rival is the next spec up and equivalent to 105.

we've done a bit of OEM spec using both brands.

SRAM Apex = Shimano 105

SRAM Rival = Shimano Ultegra

SRAM Red = Dura Ace

At least... that's how SRAM see it. Shimano probably has a different opinion...
