We did N+1, then N-1 today to end up at N. The missus' city bike was ok on bike paths, however the 700cc tyres didn't work to well on dirt/rock trails. We ended up trading it in at Ivanhoe Cycles for a 2017 Liv Tempt 2. I'm not a Giant/Liv fan, however this geometry/setup worked for the missus and the changeover price was reasonable. Pick it up at the end of the week.

I may need to go N+1 again. :o My daughter said to me yesterday....... Dad, I'm doing crunches when I get up and before I go to be and sit ups also. I will get on the walker and try to get some fitness in my legs and then I would like to go riding with you!  :cup:

That's where N+1 comes in, because I turfed her 26er due to it just sitting there and rusting away but I would get another one for her, just so that we could go for rides together and this may also help her with some issues that she has.   ;D

Yeah that's why we went for the 2017 model rather than the 2016. The 2x setup on the 2017 is really good for our area as we have lots of big hills, the 2016 had an older 3x setup.

Cool, riding with the family is awesome.

2x11 is a really good spread actually, although it does seem slow compared to the road bike....

Nowhere near as much hunting as it is on the old 3x9 mountain bike between the front cogs.

Be interested to hear your/her thoughts on this once you have it.  I am trying to decide between the Liv Tempt 1 and the Trek Superfly 6.  The Tempt 1 has a single 30t chainring while the Superfly 6 has a double 36/24.  Typical Trek pricing has the Superfly 6 quite a bit dearer for what looks like similar specs otherwise.  I'm currently riding an old Giant Yukon so either is a MAJOR upgrade, and while I love the simplicity of the single I am a bit concerned about losing those super granny gears for some of the steeper stuff we ride.

Hey Tazzi, I can say for sure unless you're a mountain goat, get the 2x. I went 1x on my new dualie and find it a little clumsy when I ride lots of hills. It's not the lack of range, just you have to hunt from high to low on the rear all the time. For example, going up a hill you pick the 24 on the front and something in the middle on the rear that works for you, when you get to the top and need to go down, you can shift up the front from 24 to 36 and away you go, without having to touch the rear. The same scenario with my 1x, you're changing madly to get the rear up and down the cassette, even with rapidshift you still have to hit the lever 3-4 times to get from 11 to 42.

Oh and we would have bought the Tempt 1 if it was 2x, hence we bought the Tempt 2.

Went explorin on the 29er this morning. Really happy with how this bike rides and handles. The best  $249 that I've spent on a bike.  ;D

New bike day for the missus and new bike rack day for me. I bought the Yakima Frontloader the other day and was so happy with it today I bought the Holdup for the tow hitch.

Also just found this bike bell, now you're thinking that's lame, well have a look and see for yourself...

Don't believe it - or at least believe with reservations.

I purchased 2 via the kickstarter and have them on my road bikes.  While they meet the legal requirement for having a bell on the bike and are a very tidy and unobtrusive option, it is difficult to mount them in a way that allows them to ring as described.  On my bars simply tightening the mount just enough to stop it from moving results in the sound being significantly muted.

Need help for a mate in Melbourne who is looking for a commuting type bike:

"I want a sturdy hybrid commuter. I want a good bottom bracket. Rigid. Be able to run some bigger tires 29er/700cc.
Hydraulic disc brakes. And I need L/XL I am 6'2''

I'm probably asking a lot for my budget ($650)."

Now, his major problem is that he's moved here from the USA so is used to everything being cheap...

Any suggestions? He's found a Focus Planet on Gumtree for sale, and is looking at that, but any suggestions for other options to look at would be great.

Be interested to hear your/her thoughts on this once you have it.

After a couple of rides, my wife loves her new bike. The gearing is perfect and it is reasonably light too, considering I bought it sight unseen I am very happy with it. The only change I am going to make is the brakes. To cut costs, Giant fitted a low spec brake, non Deore like the rest of the bike. They are hydraulic disc, however the levers are 'trekking' style. Going down hills is hard to control and brake at the same time as the levers are so large. I have ordered front and rear Deore disc brakes with 1 finger levers. When I fit them I'll also trim/resize all the hoses/gear lines as they're monster long and rubbing on the frame, oh and slam the headset. Yes my OCD runs to the missus' bike too. 8)

Was looking for new tyres, ouch.
I bought 2 Schwalbe Marathon Supremes 700 x 32 in August 2015 for $70, now they want $95 each!
Anyone has a better deal or has a great tyre in mind?
