Even though I don't live in the Goldcoast I do have a property there,

I have been getting quite concerned that when I turn the box on in the mornings it is quite common to hear about yet another violent crime that has just happened overnight in the Goldcoast.

So I thought I'd write a email to all the Council members just to find out their take on the souring crime rate and WTF they were doing about it....and I got a reply but not from the council members but from our good friend Mr Newman...

I have to say I am quietly optimistic as this bloke may be just what Queensland need, well Shit they can't play footy..  :)

Pretty impressed with his reply - I just hope it works....

what's with 2 strikes for serial child sex offenders....that's 2 victims before they do anything.
it should be 1 strike for them.

He will be proven to be like most (if not all) politicians. Similar to the butcher's cat; full of Pi$$ and wind! I think it will be a long "winter of discontent" in Qld under this little egotistical tunnel digger. :'(

It's not just about crime on the gold coast.... this does need to be addressed but Newman has to fix up the #$@!%^& mess the incompetent management of Bligher and Fraser and the other fools have left them to deal with... absolute joke...

My 5 cents worth...

I like his action regarding graffiti artists by getting them to clean up their own mess!

Be interesting to see how he goes after a couple of years, and if it is no improvement send him back his letter and say 'What's Happened?'  :police:

Having had to draft Ministerial replies years ago, if you reckon he's done anything else other than cast a quick glance over that prior to signing it, youre dreamin.

Some shmuch like myself has worked away for a day or more getting that ready, as well as some supervisor, and some Departmental Secretary.  Its cost the Government about $2k in (lost) wages.

Once, a mate of mine wrote a letter to a Minister here in Vic.  After I had prepared the reply, I went out and visited him and told him what to expect. He was very surprised when I gave him an earfull about having to devote a day of my time preparing some mindless reply to his letter when I could have actually been out acheiving something like solving his problem!  ah, the joys of being a public servant,  I remember it well!!

Seriously, we're all entitled to a response to any matter we raise with our local member.  Unfortunately, a lot of the Bearocrats we employ with our taxes are just there to churn out stuff like that.

I was pondering the performance of politicians.

If everyone thinks they're all doing a bad job, is it actually possible for any of them to do a good job? Ever?

I am tending towards the opinion that it's a crappy job and they mostly all have a go. I suspect it is more the beauracracies behind them that stifle any real action.

I actually think that most of them probably start out with all good intentions of representing their constituents and doing a good job.  Then party politics kicks in and it becomes dog eat dog.

I swing between a  small "l" Liberal and Labour.  I reckon Ive got a social conscience.  Needless to say, both sides of politics in all states and Nationally have reverted to the lowest common denominator system at the moment - look after number 1, which I find depressing.

Now I'll go back to my philisophical home base of not commenting on political threads!   ;D

Still waiting to see more results and less spin.

Campbell needs to look at the systemic issues before discrediting staff.

I think it's because all politicians constantly promise the earth to get your vote then forget you.

I  find it interesting the LNP promised everything during the election knowing that there was no money in the coffers and then once they get in tell every one sorry all promises are off the Govt is broke.

I sold a house to someone who is high up in the health system in Cairns and what crap the LNP are doing to cut costs is mind blowing.

LNP Same %^*+ different smell.  ;D But naturally know one voted for them  :D

Gee I get pissed when we have people come on here going on about what Gov has not done what they said they promised when elected. I wish all you would put up who you vote for....we are LNP voters and have been that way for ever, so that is where I stand.
Next up put your hands up if you voted for Gillard? I am so cranky about this Labour Gov giving away money we do not have..ok your saying how much money do we have?  MY wife will finish work this year at 65 (43 years of teaching, oh plenty of super, no only enough to pay our house off and a holiday  why I was a charter boat skipper and spent most of my life on boats no money there  ;D ) we do not have any children (not able) so have never received any bonuses from this Gov. Forgot I have not been employed for over 15 years, ok my choice, rather see some one with young children have the job ( and I do not and have not got any welfare)
One other thing to, I did 9 years in the Army, one reason was there was no Unions, had a great time as I was able to do what I was told.
If you think that the last Labour Gov in Qld did a great job please let us all know, and if you vote Labour and live in an other State, do not tell us what to do.
Gee I feel good now.

Is Newman any good...too early to tell. Have not seen anything yet...
Was Labour any good, no they did little for the state except near on bankrupt Qld. Bligh did do a good job with the flood and cyclone last year though...thats about it.
I live on the GC and the crime rate has surged in the last 4 - 5 years. Worries me but I hope the new GC Mayor fulfils his promises in the next year or two in conjunction with Newman to clean it up. The Commonwealth Games are here in 2018 so I expect they will want all the crime no worse than anywhere else by then.

Kevin, I would find it very hard to live in the GC and I hope that "can do" does help with sorting out the crime problem down there.

Most of us here never see any of it fortunately Bruce.
From what I can see it looks to be mainly drug related and the bikie gangs own a huge chunk of the surfers clubs etc. Outlawed or not they have wormed their way in.
Another issue is the large population and low employment. Thousands of poms migrated here over the last few years and the gov't dropped them here. Its not the migrants fault but now there is little/no work for many. No work, dropping house prices and its a recipe for armed robberies and other crimes. There was a 15 YO kid arrested a few weeks back for an armed robbery of a 7/11 store. Sad.
Not sure what the answer is but thats the job of our elected govt to deal with, hopefully they will.

The reality is probably that they are all the same regardless of party.  Sure there are small differences but not much, not like the 70's.

So the LNP will go well for a while.  The seats will start to balance out a bit, there will be a few hiccups with gay strip clubs and travel rorts and then they wont be able to say 'no' as much as they will need the votes to stay in power.

Then we get back to where we were with the last lot who lasted an election cycle too long due to an ineffective opposition.

cheers

You're welcome.  I love the sex scandals. It's never just 'normal' sex clubs which make me giggle. I hope before I die there is one involving a monkey. Then I could sleep that long sleep giggling.

:)

On a side track. Two of my staff are having an affair ATM. He is almost 50 and married and she's single and 25. God I hope she gets preggers. Hee Hee.
