Food Thieves
« on: June 20, 2012, 03:49:01 PM »
G'day all,

My daughter is at Uni in Brissy, she is living on campus, share kitchen living area etc..... anyway some scabby pr*ck is knocking off her food / drink from the fridge and cupboard..... does anyone know off lockable food storage containers sold in Aus?
Oh and i don't want to go down the road of  spiking the food, with super hot chilli or laxitives to catch out the theif...... as from what i've heard of the guy thats knocking off the food, he'd be the type to put something worse back in the my daughters food.
Anyway if anyone knows of a way of securing food, has a suggestion, i'd be happy to hear it.

Catch ya later.

Thats what my wife used when she was a boarder at college. We still have it 20 years later.

our daughter has her own cheap bar fridge and micro wave in her room. The amount of food she keeps is minimul - cereal, pre cooked meals (mum cooked, or pre packaged), milk & yoghurt.

Fridge is mostly full of Goon!!

+1. Can't remember having any use for food when I was at uni. Took up valuable rum and coke room (in the fridge, as well as in the belly).

+1 to the idea of a cheap little bar fridge if you can fit it in / are allowed. Heck, even a 12v fridge that you can run on 240v - a cheap 40L Waeco from the seconds shop would be good for this. She can hide it in her wardrobe if it's against regulations!

Good luck
Matto :)

Hi Barrabart
Stealing anything, even food, on any campus is a crime that would not be tolerated.  I would be involving the senate straight away, and getting them to have him removed from Campus, and he would, or should, have his studies cancelled.
Alternatively, as suggested, a small car fridge second hand for cold storage, and a lockable tuckerbox (tool box) would be ideal.

G'day
Had the same conundrum when I was an apprentice
Lunch and drinks would go missing everday, A Fair dose of Epsom salts strategical placed soon ironed out the culprit
and they couldn't complain as I was putting it in my own food marked with my name on it

G'day all,

Thanks for the interest and replies..... latest news is my daughter has given the guy a piece of her mind, after finding him not only helping himself to her Fruit Juice, but shouting a couple of his mates a glass as well..... also, has reported the lowlife to the campus "authorities".......
I'll chase up if she can have a fridge in the room.......

Ratsak or similar.
he'll only do it the once after that.
no tolerance for scumbags.
if ratsak doesn't work, a good beating by the concerned father and his mates should sort the prick out.
Why do people ask "What the hell were you thinking?"
Obviously I was thinking I was going to get away with it and not have to explain it....

Rule 303 is probably going a bit far - I'd keep that one up my sleeve for later. I'd start with Rule 22. I find it's a good place to start.

Barrabart - good work on your girl for sorting him out. Remind me to never get offside with your family - seems between your daughter and your son, the low-lifes in this world are going to get what's coming to them...

Cheers!
Matto :)

I had a mate who used to do this at uni.
He learnt his lesson once when he drank straight from the milk carton.
Didn't check the use-by date and a solid lump of bad milk filled his mouth.
