Recoveries at Palm Creek
« on: June 17, 2012, 09:29:44 PM »

Speaking to some members we may be able to snatch members up the crossing depending on the conditions etc

If we can it will be much quicker getting the 7000 cars across  ;D

Definitely possible... I was snatched up very gently as my winch stopped working.

Only needed a very gentle snatch for half meter before driving out.

But in saying that you know how quickly conditions change

Enjoy the trip

as of yesterday no one was getting up Palm Creek going south without a winch out.. to me it was a no go territory for Trailers unless you want serious damage.. the top of Palm Creek has a small graveyard of damaged body parts, glass panels etc etc.. north of Palm creek there are folks waiting for spare radiators to be shipped to Weipa [ been there a week] a stick went through it!

What about the exit out of Palm Creek heading north? Can you advise how that is or was? A video I saw a few weeks ago of a crossing sometime in May showed the first 20 metres or so pretty sloppy. Just wondering if it has dried out any.

Thanks,

Dave

As far as I know it's still muddy and will be for a while.

Video of Palm Creek exit heading South. We were told all day getting up to it, that towing the camper, we would definately have to winch up it.

This was the 20th July last year.

Had a few people who had come down for the day just to watch everyone attempting it.

We also drove out of it easy last year.  This year maybe a different story for a few swaggers tho  ;D

Cheers

Well done ....... we did it last year with campers in June and it was a lot wetter and muddier  and slipperier ........ and just about everyone we saw camper or not was winching or snatching. The day we were there spectators were saying only 3 cars had driven it that day so far ;D

Haha, that would be my lovely wife. We got married in Cairns around 3 weeks prior.

I'm glad she was on the outside, just imagine what she would have been like inside the car.
