damn fridges.......
« on: June 06, 2012, 08:38:51 PM »
Should never have started looking (again)

Has anyone bought and therefore have comment on this fridge and also the seller?

evakool 80 litre fridge freezer. They have sold a few and there does not appear to be any bad feedback

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/280745645158

Yes I have had a search thru here as well

thanks

Geoff

I dunno........ if it seems too good to be true then it probably is.

I just looked on their site. The evakool www site doesn't even show that model.   I would at least ring evakool and find out if they made an 80L like that or if it is a knock off... or some new made in china model.

Not an evakool fridge just 'backed by evakool' for warranty purposes I believe.
The ebay ad has this "
100% Australian Support

Backed by EvaKool one of Australia's most trusted refrigeration specialists"
and a bit more down the bottom of the ad.

Australian Direct has been around a while.  They have a website
http://www.australiandirect.com.au/shop/portable-fridges/chest-style-12-24-volt/1008

thanks for the responses. Had another look + sent them a few questions.

Now thinking (before any answers) it is a Chinese fridge with whom Australian Direct have contracted Evakool service agents as Australian Direct agents.

I think the same unit is sold by BCF

Would still be interested if anyone has direct experience with the unit?

I had brought a similar fridge ...and yes , it was a Chinese fridge , even through it had ' evakool ' written all over it , brought in by ' evakool ' ,  it was a ' evakool 95 litre ( i think ) ' fridge , it was a grey with black trim model with separate lids , i couldn't even get it going , on the up side , ' evakool ' was incredible with their warrant and back-up .I ended up going with one of their white fibreglass fridge's ... more then happy with it .
Hope that helps

I have a 60L fridge that looks like it's out of the same factory as the one in the eBay link.

Had it for 3 or 4 years, have used it in the back of the Navara and on my boat.

It's been flawless, haven't used it as much as I would have liked, but I'm happy with it.

It did give me a few moments of despair when I first turned it on (the LED display lit up, but it took a few minutes for the compressor to kick in initially ... but I was too impatient and was checking fuses and voltage levels etc until I finally left it for a few minutes ... much relief when it kicked in!).

I do need to set the temp lower than I'd expect, and it's a fine balance keeping everything at the right temp (cold enough for meat without freezing the milk ... I need a vacuum sealer).

As above, I'm very happy. If I was buying a fridge for a round-Oz trip I'd probably have invested more, but for the work I put it to it's been fine.

I got a reply from Australian Direct

Quote
The AD range of fridges are produced in China, and imported by Evakool.  This fridge is covered with Evakools Service agents Australia Wide.
The Evakool Service agent in Port Macquarie is Midcoast Appliance Repairs.
Feel free to email or call us with any more questions.
Kind regards

It is still interesting it is an "Australian Direct" fridge but it is imported by Evakool.
