Went there on a FNQ myswaggers trip and liked it so well we went back a few weeks later.
Morag and I caught so many brim it was unbelieveable...

Thinking of doing the coast rd to Cooktown & staying at the Lions Den. Mt Spurgeon or even McLeods River probably wouldn't be too packed this weekend.

If we get the car back, we're probably doing a day trip up cape trib way. We used to do Koombaloomba (sp?) or Tinaroo a couple of years ago, though the latter was always busy.

It was 18 on my back patio this morning, and that was cold enough for me!

@rockman - we're heading Back To Boonmoo this weekend, after we left it too late to book Hurricane. It's going to be cold there - was cold enough at Easter.

@ lilstookie/fnq4now - it's Cooktown Discovery Weekend this weekend. Hence why I'm not going anywhere near the place. Expect the whoel region to be overrun. It's a good weekend if you're going for the festival, but I would be expecting to share Lions Den.

Aside - Koombaloomba is nice, we've been out there for a day trip but haven't camped. From memory, the place was a whole lot better if you had a boat.

@Bill - Woodleigh looks great - I think it's just earnt a place on our list :).

Cheers!

Damn ... Woodleigh Station is booked out

We have been to Boonmoo last easter time ... got bogged for the night right up the end of the track , did not quite see the funny side in it .
Have to try and look around for something else ...?

Cheers

How about Kalmer Waters?
Right next door to Hurricane Station.
Chillagoe Station used to allow campers...

we need a special thread on camping areas in and around Cairns including the names of places, the layout and contact details.

+1. I've had an idea about revamping the Camping Areas threads in the Trips and Tracks section to make them a bit more user-friendly. IE, rather than one massive state-based thread, let's make each state it's own sub-forum, and make a seperate thread for each place. IE, a "Tyrconnel Mine" thread, a "Lake Tinaroo" thread, etc. That way, as time goes on people can add the latest updates/new photos/changes to the bottom of the thread, and it will keep it all up to date. Would be best to have a standardised format for the title and the body, much like some forums have for the for-sale sections. Would be good to cinlude costs ideas, as well as links to the owners/NPWS site, etc.

If we wanted to get really fancy we could break each state forum down into sub-regions, (ie, a FNQ region). I think that would allow the people who live in those regions to really keep their sections up to date, whilst also allowing travellers to a new region to easily discover the best places that are available to them. I think that would be a little easier to navigate than just a state-based section.

Anyway, I've been meaning to talk to Teabag/the mods about it for ages now, but never manage to get the time. Let me know what you guys reckon, if you think there's value there then I'm happy to propose the change and see what people think.

Cheers!

That's a great idea McGirr and Matto, I only recently moved back to Cairns from Weipa and after living in Cairns for like 20 years I have never been to most of the places mentioned on this forum... :(

Visited Davies Cr and Closehy road last weekend nice swimming holes and some camping at Davies, but I'd guess it would already be booked also being only 6 spots.

Cheers,

Mount Mulligan Station out from Dimbulah is great. Plenty of fish and redclaw and lots of different spots to go. You can either camp at homestead with showers toilets or bush cam and varios camsights. we went to sight 8 which could easily fit 30 seperate camps right on the creek. recommend highly
