Wow and I thought i heard swear bear bazza and the Honourable Gay say he wasn't going to slush fund the speed camera program

Interesting the intersection speed/red light cameras will now be increasing from 45 to 200 

and the old obsolete revenue raising cameras that were going to be put out to pasture are now operating on a three strikes and your done system.

It is simple really.
If one does not speed one does not have to worrry about the cameras.
I got a speeding ticket 3 weeks ago but I did not complain about it because it was my choice to speed to overtake the truck in front of me.
He was doing the speed limit, I just wanted to go quicker

I find on the longer drives, my eyes get sore checking the speedo all the time.

Seriously, you can't even use cruise control other than a freeway because the limit changes so often.
Try driving bells line, pathetic highway, or any major arterial with cruise control.
You spend so much time changing it you're bound to have an accident.

Now I don't endorse speeding or running reds EVER, but revenue cameras are not the answer.

Off topic, but related....

I took my son to soccer a few weeks ago. I coach the team and arrive early. Even still, I couldn't find any parking.
The grounds accommodate 12 soccer fields, but only have enough parking for 2 or 3. Add to that the weekend pain Nazis doing their boot camp and people have to park on the grass, double park, in the bus area etc etc.

Of course I got booked by a council ranger didn't I...
You can't tell me on a Saturday morning in a ground with limited parking, that that's not revenue raising.
Booking your own constituents for taking kids to soccer. Pathetic effort. But they go on the whole "safety"thing to back their decision.
How safe is it to have people park at the shopping centre using all their parking spots then walk the 2 km's along a busy road with no footpath 2 inches from cars, trucks and buses, carrying all the gear and kids who are ramped up to play sport.

Yeah safety - My donkey!!!! Greedy pork rollers.

If you really want to stop the problem, come down hard on repeat offenders, instead of the usual let offs or minimal sentencing.

Hey that's my comment!   
I've now used that to a highway patrol officer, luckily I know him, he took one look at my car and told me that there wwas not much chance of me speeding. 
He had actually pulled me over to suggest that I might rethink the way my tarp was secured at the back of my trailer, at speed it was partially covering my numberplate, he then stayed and had a yarn while I resecured it, no ticket, good bloke.
If I get caught speeding or running a red light I'll cop it on the chin, I try to drive in a way where I hopefully avoid such charges, The thing I find difficult now is keeping up with the speed limit changes. I don't know how it is in other states, but NSW there are so many signs on the sidside of the road you cannot possibly read them all whilst driving, watching what is going on around your vehicle and watching the speedo.

Dont get me started, I have just been instructed to book people under 10kph. That is left up to the speed cameras, red light cameras will get support. In 24 yearsI have never been to a prang where a person has died or been critically injured because someone was doing up to 10 kph over the speed limit.  Ka ching ka ching.

So was my family, the police are still investigating. The crash happened in February. The guy that ran the red light says he had a green light. If there were red light cameras on that intersection, it'd all be settled by now.

For the majority of road users this program will affect them as the bulk of the speed cameras will be installed in areas where the focus of the driver should be on the road rather than focusing on illogical minor changes to the speed zone and time zone, the reduction of margins of infringement and not legislatively locking in all the revenue from the fines for specific road projects.

As far as I'm concerned, unsafe and excessive speeding and careless red light runners should be fined in the $000s.

It would be good if this program could focus on unsafe (tailgaiters) and excessive speeding in poor weather conditions. On any give rainday across the state there are numerous examples of poor driver judgment for the conditions. This is especially true around the major arterial roads heading into Sydhey (F3, M2, M4.....).

End of rant, I'm anticipating the Sydney long weekend traffic

If legally a speedo can be up to 5% out either way, how can they book you for doing 105 in a 100 zone?

{EDIT} found this on the cars guide website ... "Now we're being told that speed tolerances could be dropped to as low as 5km/h over the limit, while at the same time our speedos, by law, are allowed to be 4km/h out of whack.

Other contributing factors includes uncertainties such as the angle at which individuals view a speedo needle and throttle control, which can add a couple more kilometres an hour of indiscretion to your speed without you knowing. In short, we'd better all drive at 5km/h under the speed limit to be sure not to be diving into our wallets, or worse, catching a bus to work when we've seen all our driver's licence points evaporate.

Hey Donuts...we could do with some of your mates and my ex cohort doing a bit of work around the St Helena area..... would have to be the 'happy hunting grounds' as we live in a signed 40kmh zone between a couple of schools...
Anyway
Not more enforcement required IMHO but lets go back to actually teaching roadcraft as part of the licencing requirements.... then the majority would be in the 'right' place on the road, travelling at the 'right' speed,  with the 'right' gear engaged  (that might even be their brains which I fear with some are located a lot lower than their skulls!).

slightly off topic with this post but........................

just been to our local RMS (  we reckon its short for Revenue Making Service ) to renew my 5 year MC licence. did the usual stuff eg . eye sight test , and sat down on the chair for the photo. now here's the strange bit.............you cannot smile or even show your teeth in the photo........WTF? 

c'mon RMS.........wake up to yourselves!!

I don't have an issue with red light cameras either, but as above, on some of the roads around there are so many speed changes it is difficult to what the limit might be at that point. Drive from Maitland to Singleton some time. In less than 50km there must be 20 changes of speed limit.

It has been shown in Europe that less signs and regulations actually improves driver bahviour and attention. Quite apart from that, you can't see the surrounding countryside anymore for all the bloody signs along the road. In my area, north west Sydney, they're like a rash. Even straigth stretches of road are crowded by "No Stopping" signs every 20m in some places. EVERY 20M.

Our cars are so much better than they ever were,m and yet the speed limits get reduced and reduced, and there is not much evidence to suggest that measure is reducing road tolls. What is effective, is making the roads better. Driver ed wouldn't go astray either. How about the knob who sits on 90 in the middle or right lane on the three lane freeway. They're not speeding, but are they less dangerous than the bloke doing 115km (in the 110kmh).
