Evakool Seconds Freezer.
« on: June 01, 2012, 06:04:24 PM »
Does anyone have one of these, and are you happy with it? I already have a 35 litre fridge so think one of these or even only a 20 litre size would be enough for what I want to freeze. A Waeco second is $439, but you still have to buy the cover etc.

Hi Nomad,
I have one of those and used it as a freezer when we went around the block last year. It ran constantly for 4 months with no trouble at all. Put the hard word on them as I got the bag and the 240v adaptor thrown in, just be careful of which 240v adaptor you get as one has a fan in it and it will drive you and anyone near crazy.

Looks a lot like these from Techni Ice, and they throw in a bag and a couple of accessories also.

I have no connection to them, but a mate has bought one recently and I'm awaiting his return from an 8 week trip to check how it went.

Cheers.

Thanks Gentlemen,

Good to here it went well on a longer trip. It does look exactly the same as the techni ice..........

Only benefit of the Evakool is that there factory is down the road from my oldies place so its easy to drop in and grab it..........

Still not sure if I should dump the fridge and get one larger one or go for a seperate fridge and freezer.

Just make sure it is a genuine ' evakool ' fridge .
I brought one of their fridges that had their evakool sticker on it , turns out it was just a import fridge that they stuck their name to so they can compete in the bottom end market .
The fridge wouldn't work from the start .
To their credit , they fully refunded / swapped for one of the white ' genuine ' evakool without an issue , probably the first company that I have dealt with that did .

The BCD30 (and BCD40 and BCD50) is a cheap Chinese import rebadged by all and sundry.  Whether it is a reliable fridge or not I do not know.  Last time I Googled  BCD30 in "Advanced" mode with China as the region up came multiple entries, with the best price ex China of around $Aus90.  If you Google BCD30 with Australian pages only again you will find multiple "brand" names, including Evakool.
