Highway Thunder 16th September 2012
« on: May 25, 2012, 09:27:05 PM »
i've no idea what this websites policy is of posting stuff like this up, but it's for a great cause so hopefully it'll be allowed to stay.

I'm not sure if any of you have heard of Highway Thunder before ( http://www.whiteballoonday.com.au/highway_thunder.ews ), but basically it's a vehicle convoy drive from Loganholme (Brisbane Southside) down the highway to Parklands Showground on the Gold Coast to help raise funds for the Bravehearts foundation. For those that don't know what Bravehearts is about, it's a foundation set up to help counsel children who have been sexually abused, more information about the foundation can be found here http://www.bravehearts.org.au/about.ews.
In short, what will happen on the day is..... everyone who intends to do the convoy drive meets up at the Logan Hyperdome carpark (the exact carpark location will be given as soon as i get it) at 7.00 a.m for a 8.30 a.m departure. At the meet up point there will be a sausage sizzle and coffee van so that people can have brekky before the drive starts . At 8.30 a.m Qld police along with The Motley Crew 4wd Club will then lead the convoy down the highway to Parklands Showground (all vehicles will drive in single file and keep to the lefthand lane so as not to hold up any other traffic), once at Parklands Showground there will be a heap of free activities planned for both adults and kids, some of these include:-

•Animal Farm
•Jumping castle
•Slide
•Face Painting
•FMX Kaos (TBC)
•GC Machinery demonstration
•Car show n shine (trophies)
•Trade displays
•Mobile Police Station
•Crime Stoppers
•SES demonstration
•Fire Safety demonstration
•Magician
•Music local bands
•Balloon Artist
•Kids rides
•Car Rides with Kustoms Car Club

•there will also be Raffles and Prizes on the day at an added cost aswell

Why am i posting this up?...this event was in danger of not going ahead this year until the 4wd club i'm involved in (The Motley Crew 4wd and Social Club) stepped in and asked what was happening with the drive. Being our 4wd club prides itself on being a family orientated club, we felt we should do all we could do to help make this once again, a successful fundraising event for a foundation as worthwhile as Bravehearts is. So our 4wd club is throwing out an invite to anyone who reads this to come along on the day and help raise some much needed funds for a fantastic organisation. The drive is open to all registered vehicles, we don't care what you own we want to see it there on the day. Previous years convoys have had custom cars, motorbikes, 4wd's and even trucks joining in on the run, so once at Parklands Showground there should be plenty of vehicles of all descriptions for people to wander about and look at.

There is still much planning being done as to exactly what will be happening at Parklands on the day, keep watching this thread and i'll add any extra information i am told as soon as i get it.

cheers.

**Please Note** The Motley Crew 4wd club is not acting alone in organising this great family day out, the Kustoms of Australia Gold Coast car club aswell as Cruzin Magazine have jumped onboard and are also helping to organise events on the day.

just an update for anyone that may have looked at the links i posted up......the price for vehicle entry says it's $20, that amount is incorrect and the correct price is only $15. i see the website hasn't been updated yet, but those who are in charge of that have been alerted and it will be changed soon to reflect the correct entry fee price. also when you clicked on the "Register Now" section at the bottom of the page it didn't work for taking you to the registration area, this has also been mentioned to those in charge and will hopefully be fixed soon aswell.

The complete website is being reworked and all the correct info and links should be up by mid next week so they tell me

if anyone is a member of any sort of club, be it car, 4wd, motorbike or anything else, please feel free to mention this to your club and see if they would be interested in joining us on the day for the convoy run. the day is not just for members of clubs though, if anyone wants to come along on their own in their vehicle, they are very much welcome to aswell.
cheers

just an update on the cost of coming along to this event. originally the price we were told was $15 to enter a vehicle into the convoy as per previous years convoys, tonight i received a phone call telling me it is now only $10 for entry this year. i'm not sure why the fee has been lowered, as personally i thought the day out was good value already at the original figure, so now it's a bargain IMHO.
i also clicked on the original link i posted up in the starting thread and see they have updated the site, so now you can officially register for this day out.
cheers

just bumping this to the top of the page again as it's only a month away now.
so far we have 28 members vehicles from our 4wd club alone register to be there on the day, and i've heard that some of the other 4wd clubs plan on having quite a few people attend aswell, so there should be lots of fourbies there for people to check out.
on top of that.... this event is also being organised with the help of Kustoms of Australia Gold Coast car club aswell as Cruzin Magazine, and was posted on Qld Street Car magazine's facebook page on Friday. on Street Cars facebook page it was getting a lot of interest, aswell as some people saying they would attend straight up, so sounds like it should be a great variety of vehicles that will be there on the day for everyone to walk around and check out  8) 8)

Final update for you Mal, the BBQ Breakfast (aka sausage sizzle) has finally been settles, appears there was a little hiccup but all sorted, so the coffee van will be there first up and at Parklands and the sausage sizzle will be $1, unfortunately we couldn't get them donated so the $1 is to cover the cost.
The numbers I have seen coming in indicate that this will be a huge day so hopefully the weather stays good.

Don't know if it has been mentioned here but there are two 4wd Show n shine trophies organised that Bravehearts will judge, Best Presented 4wd and Meanest Looking 4wd. All for a bit of fun and Bravehearts people will judge it and by their own admission know nothing about 4wd's which will make it all that more interesting

Cheers
