New Cordless Drill

What type of drill is out there for reliability and portability? Dont mind paying good dollars for something decent. What size is out there? 12, 18 , 24? Which size is better. It is only for home use. Thanks all.

I recently bought a 18V Lithium Bosch cordless drill and it’s fantastic. I originally went to my a Makita, but the same spec Bosch was cheaper. Heaps of power and the lithium battery gives 100% right up to it goes flat.

Very happy with my purchase and should have upgraded years ago.

18Volt lithium any brand, just dont flatten the battery completely, charge immediately after use and it will be fine.
 Cheapies are OK for home use, go the bigger brand if you intend to use it for pro use.

The batteries always die before the drill does anyway!

that said I have an elcrapo $19, 14v, drill for home use, but I keep the battery in the charger when not in use
it's about 8 yrs old, but I would not recomend this if you need a drill for big jobs
Mine is just for doing the remote work that the power cord won't reach, it only lasts 10 mins b4 needing a recharge

I have the Milwaukee M18 Hammer Drill as well.  As already said, I got sick of cheap stuff a couple of years ago.

Great drill and will do some damage to your wrists before clapping out.

I've recently discovered the Renegade brand from Trade Tools Direct - 10.8v Li-ion and a huge range of tools using the same battery.  I first came across them when the carpenter doing our reno had the multi-tool - I thought it was great and bought myself one in a set that included a circular saw.  I've since bought the jigsaw and drill , the fluro lamp and the led torch, and they are now my first choice of tools unless I need the added power of my mains powered ones.  My Bosch 18v drill (with Nicad battery, hardly gets a look-in nowadays due to the fact that it always needs recharging before I can use it.

I have a great Hitachi but as you and others say the battery is never charged when you want to use the thing. Thanks all. That gives me some good ideas. MASTERS is opening next week in my neighbourhood so look out Bunnings!

I am a carpenter and have used and owned most brands, I have makita at the moment and they are good. If it was for home use I would look at the ryobi range at bunnings, buy a drill pack with the batteries and charger and then you can add extra tools as you need them, a few tradies are using them as well and they are doing OK

I have been impressed with my Dewalt 18v lith... plus came with 2 batteries, charger and a send away offer of a 3rd large battery for free. Heaps of torque to put in long roofing screws etc

I've had Ryobi gear for many years. I bought them 'cos Ryobi did the "system" thing that many other brands now do.
Mine are for home use only, but they've had a flogging. Got lots of different tools, and they all do the job.
The only things that have gone are the batteries (old Ni-Cads), but they've stayed with the same connection, so no issue.
I've got all Li-ion batteries now. Very happy with Ryobi..........

Not sure where donuts hails from, but there is one being built opposite Bunnings on Ferntree Gully Road in Scoresby.....

And as for the drill, my Ryobi has served me well for years around the house, with a Dynadrill from Ramset for the tougher jobs.

Whack an anderson plug on them and use them when camping....main use will be to wind down stabilisers on the van

Have had a DeWalt 18V system with 5 other DeWalt tools for many years and they have never let me down. A brand I will always trust- must be good for others to copy.

I'm a tradie and I use Makita for light duty stuff and Milwaukee for the serious stuff, but for a homeowner I can't recommend Bosch enough.

Enough grunt to do most things, good product, but not overpriced.

we use hitachi 18v li ion with the 3 ah batts. have 2 drill/drivers, 1 impact drill and 1 hammer drill. we work them all reasonably hard and after 3 and a bit years they are still kicking goals. would defo get the bigger batteries tho.

Thinking the same thing.  Have a 12V Dewalt which is brilliant, older style full metal chuck 12 years old now but batteries hard to get and only NiCd.

Have used most of the brands from time to time, really only absolute cheapest ones like Ozito that I would steer clear of.  Milwaukee, Dewalt, Hitachi and AEG probably the best but Bosch tools are great value for money for home use.

I bought a ryobi with lithium batteries for home use. It's been great. I've built a hard wood deck, renovated a bathroom plus all the other stuff. Not sure how it'd stand up to trade use, but has been fit for reno use. I also have jigsaw, circular saw and angle grinder. No complaints and a lot cheaper than others.
