Hi everyone,

First of all, this forum is excellent!!! Lots of good information, experiences and very nice people.

I am in the process of getting a new Jayco camper trailer for my family (Wife and 2 kids under 4) and love to hear some suggestions from all of you.

I'm looking to get a Swan OB or a Flamingo OB. Both have pros and cons, but I think I like more the Swan. Any thoughts?

I will be towing the van with a Toyota Kluger AWD, and for the brake controller I'm deciding between Tekonsha P2 or P3. Thoughts?

Finally, for the extras in the van I'm open to suggestions. We will be doing mostly CPs and occasionally national parks but nothing too seriously off road.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Cheers,

Fernando.

From what I can tell, Jayco's and Webber's go hand in hand, they should come as a standard option  ;D

Welcome Fherro, for my 2 bob's worth the water heater / outside shower option is definitely worth it, especially with young one's.  Also if you are considering a weber Q get the external gas bayonet.

Welcome Fernando :)
We have just picked up our Jayco Swan a few months ago and love it. We also have two kids under 4 and we find it's got heaps of room, we put both kids in double bed, lil fella is in a Phil and teds portacot at end of bed and 3 year old is at head of same bed.
As far as extras, We got kakadu bagged awning on both sides and bed end flys and annex, extra gas bottle and gas bayonett, tap to aframe which is really handy with washing down little feet and stuff before going in camper, hot water system and external shower, also really handy with the littlies.
Oh and of course it didn't take us long to also get a weber, we got the Q200

Hey mate, things i got on my OB swan last year,

Full kakadu annex with porch
Bed flies
Kitchen awning (must have to sun protection and privacy)
Battery pack - put the anderson plug in myself
LED Lights throughout
12 volt pump
replaced mattresses with inner spring ones (both ends)

I didn't get:
The extra gas bottle - don't need it as a 9kg bottle lasts a long time...
extra gas bayonet - (wish I did), if you get it make sure that they put it in a good position up front near the draw bar, friends picked up theirs the other week and it was down the back which will be behind the wheel and is covered by the weather protector.
Extended draw bar -wish I did- gives the extra 300mm
off road hitch -didn't need it
Gas hot water - use a coleman (heaps cheaper)
Shower - use a coleman
IMO don't spend heaps of money on the Vantec protection (they will try to upsell you), I had it on a coromal and it cost me about $1k, bought 4 tins of scotchguard and good polish to protect the external....

As you live in Brisbane, not much to look at but you are welcome to come and have a look at mine if you wish.

Regards

Scott

Hi Fernando

Iam new to the forum also and joined after ordering a new swan ob in April.

We will mostly use our camper for bush/outback camping and ordered it with:
Twin water tanks
Control panel
Deleted microwave and fitted full oven
Twin gas bottles
Bagged awning with walls
Bagged bed flys
Bed converter
Extended drawbar
2000kg axle and payload upgrade
Shurflow pressure pump
Battery
Alko offroad hitch
Extra power points in buffet 240/12v
Moved tv point to buffet

I will add gas bayonet, drawbar tap and heavy duty wiring for solar/car battery connection myself.

There are some things you can get that are not listed in the sales brochure, just ask them for extras you want. Shop around also I got mine from Page Brothers $1800 cheaper than Bayswater .
Your car should be fine to tow the van and I have the p3 brake controller and find it works well on my work trailer and the few times I hired a eagle ob.

Good luck with purchase I can't wait to get mine!

G'day & Welcome Fernando.

How is your decision shaping up? Got some good advice above I see, plus there are plenty of threads about other folks with Jayco's similar to what you're looking at.

Welcome for the second time  ;D

Im running the P2 with my Swan and have had no issues at all. With most things a good install is essential.
Make sure you tick the hot water box as its a lot easier having an integrated system and the Missus will love you for it  ;D

Yeah bed flys with sides sewn together in the corners never never go astray on a windup.

With the bagged awnings and flys just check em every so often.  See plenty that are great at trapping water inside.  Anything thats wrapped up with water inside over time of course is never ideal.

Thanks to everyone for their comments,

I have decided to go for the OB Swan but haven't ordered it waiting for the Brisbane Caravan Show to see what I can get there.

So far I've decided for the Fiamma Awning, water pump, water tap in the A frame, gas bayonet, extra water tank, battery and LED lighting inside the van.

In regards to upgrading the payload of the van, is this really necessary? if it is, should they do it free of charge or do I pay extra for it.

For the brake controller, I can get in eBay the Tekonsha P3 cheaper than the P2. Any reason why the best or newer of the 2 is cheaper than the simpler model?

Finally, there are not many Jayco dealers around Brisbane, but any suggestions between Brisbane and Tweed Heads?

Oh you will love the swan! When we were looking at purchasing ours we went to Jayco at Gold Coast and then Brisbane Camperland, Camperland were by far the better dealer as far as knowledge, professionalism and price, and I've since found out they exceed in after sales service. I would not hesitate in recommending Brisbane Camperland. (ps I'm not affiliated in any way)

Hopefully this is not too late.

If you wish to attach walls to a Fiama later on, I would think very carefully first before making the puchase.

Thank you all for your responses, I am now in the most painful time of waiting for the delivery.

It's due early September, so not much left.

In the end I got the Fiamma awning (I don't plan to extend it with walls) and got the shelves fitted to the robe (Thanks Sicilianmama).

I'll update you all later.

Cheers.
