I hate the intrusion of generator noise.

I ensure as much as possible that I don't intrude on the quiet enjoyment of nature, of fellow campers, and ask only that they respect my desire for quiet enjoyment.

I don't ever camp in a Generator area, so the @rseholes who do upset my quiet enjoyment are just that!

I find snorers or coughers at night annoy me more than generators...

There is also the problem with late night flatulence to be contended with .

A still night in any camping area will reveal a whole symphony of offensive noises . Answer ......... start up a genny , nice gentle consistent hummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm , no problem .

Ilike this sign

Baz.

I hear you brother!  I'm sucking down a Sparkling Ale right now.

Back on topic, no generator should be just that.  If somebody had an emergency power failure, like accidental flattening of their batteries, and needed to start one up then you'd think they'd visit the neighbours (beer in hand maybe), explain, and ask if was a problem.  Not everybody cares though.

Cutting cords is completely out of order and could kill somebody if they fired the genny up without noticing.

I like to go camping in a pretty quiet place (one hour of 4wding to cover 20 km) and would be really pissed if somebody fired up a genny.  I'd probably have to put some Motorhead on to drown it out! >:D ;D

Some years back we arrived late afternoon at Gunlom campground in Kakadu in gen approved area. Rule is gen off by 2100hrs.
We have solar panels on roof of our Eagle but put out gen about 15 metres away near a bush as I wasn't sure of battery charge back then as system was new.
Set up sat etc. preparing for footy game.
We had deliberately camped right away from all others ( only about 4 other camps ).
Two blokes rocked up late afternoon and looked like plonking within twenty metres ( on the gen side ) when they could have parked a hundred away from us and everybody else in the area. I said to my wife I would warn them we had a gen and that maybe it might annoy them even though it was permitted. She said don't bother, that's their problem. Anyway me being me thought I'd do the right thing so wandered over and let these guys know the score. They looked like they weren't bothered but fortuitously they toddled off to the far side a hundred metres away.

Just on dusk a few good ol' boys turned up at their camp and they considerately provided LOUD, ;D heavy rock and yeharrring for the entire camping area until well after midnight. Fortunately the hundred metre buffer and essential earplugs made the night bearable.

Our solar setup now means we don't require gen at the times we go camping but for an extended trip I recommend taking gen along if only as a deterrent decoration. Wife ( Ms Right ), even admitted it was a good gesture make the meatheads aware of our Genny!  ;D

I think other then the noise what bother me the most is they didn't care, they weren't worried about the sign's or what the ranger said to them or the fact it was annoying myself and other's. It was I am going to use it and I don't care what anyone thinks or says.

I only hope they never go back to this place again as we have been camping there for 15 years and 2 or 3 times a year,

Thanks to everyone for your thoughts

Cheers

What I want to know is ... where is it that you are going exactly?  Being that their are often no generators there, I'd like to go myself, because a new place is always nice to visit.  Well be doing a new place this weekend and are hoping to be the only ones there.

We have a favourite in the Lockyer Valley that I'm sure you'd know about ... Glen Rock.
