More mud "A Jeep Thing"
« on: May 15, 2012, 09:32:52 PM »
Hope these guys aren't on Myswag but they should be proud of their efforts.
Last Saturday we went for a drive , Perth - Dwellingup then down Nanga Rd ending up in Harvey dam. Great day with beaut weather.
On the way back we decided to check out the other dams to see how little water was in them. At Waroona dam we came into the dam from the back road ( you can drive right down to the water on these dams, not drinking water) and came across a new model Jeep bogged in the mud on one of the creeks feeding the dam. Even with dual lockers the owners father in law managed to put it down to the diffs.
I asked if they wanted a snatch backwards but they had it under control.

First attempt we saw was with maxtracks which only drove them deep into the mud.

Next came the winch which alarmed me a bit when they hooked it up to a snatch strap attached to the other Jeep. The winch took up the slack but with the weight of the Jeep stuck it sure stretched the strap. Not sure how much stretch a strap can take in a continuous way like that but it worked and after two takes at it they were out.

Only thing left for them to do was decide who was going in to retrieve the maxtrax

These dams are a worry in how little water are in them. I remember watersking on them years ago but thats banned now because of the low level.
Nice shot of dam from dam wall looking back to where the jeep was.

They offered to pull me out if I got stuck going through the creek in my Prado.
I declined their offer with the excuse that I would like something more reliable than two Jeeps to get me out if I got stuck. ;D

I can understand why you found that a noteworthy occurrence.  Not often a non Jeeper gets to see a stuck Jeep.

This is more like what you expect to see:

The young dudes in the 80 series had been stuck for hours before the group of Jeeps came by.
